Re: Podling use of StackOverflow

2019-04-03 Thread Dave Fisher
I think a user@ mailing list is better for the project’s sustainability and
Apache.

I have examples related to POI where there is substantial StackOverflow support
happening.

12 years ago I became a POI committer for answering user questions.

Recently we asked an active StackOverflow answer if he was interested in being
a committer and StackOverflow was his community.

Apache records are always better than stuff at another company. Gmane and
markmail email links have rotted away.

I would encourage a user list for the visibility for the PMC in understanding
what’s happening along with a more coherent community!

Dave

Podling use of StackOverflow

2019-04-03 Thread Alan Gates
The superset podling is working out their processes around FAQs and
answering user questions. One thing that they have suggested is that they
encourage people to use StackOverflow for questions and answers given the
ease of searching old questions, etc. You can see the mail thread at
https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/1cd1c1e7d02d712ec4e1a13a50cb6016318be5e55ca023b10087cb61@%3Cdev.superset.apache.org%3E

Personally I think encouraging podlings to use tools they and everyone are
comfortable with and that meet our criteria of being open to all is a good
thing, but I wanted to check if there was official policy on this before
they proceed with it.

Alan.

You are welcome Bertrand!

Thanks for your updates to the README. I made some more let me know what you
think. Perhaps we need a CLUTCH.md.

I would rather discuss the podling status pages with dev@whimsical and
general@incubator to perfect how we want to maintain and store the status
information.

I think it may be time to resolve this JIRA.

Hi,

I can see Annotator and MXnet are working on reports, please get them is as
soon as you can. For other projects can the Mentors please remind your podling
that their report is due. Any podling not submitting on time will be asked to
report next month.

Projects Can Apply Individually for Google Season of Docs

2019-04-03 Thread sharan

Hi All

Initially the ASF as an organisation was planning to apply as a
mentoring organisation for Google Season of Docs on behalf of all Apache
projects but if accepted the maximum number of technical writers we
could allocated is two. Two technical writers would probably not be
enough to cover the potential demand from all our projects interested in
participating.

We've received feedback from Google that individual projects can apply.
I will withdraw the ASF application so that any Apache project
interested can apply individually for Season of Docs and so have the
potential of being allocated a technical writer.

Applications for Season of Docs is open now and closes on 23^rd April
2019. If your project would like to apply then please see the following
link:

https://developers.google.com/season-of-docs/docs/get-started/

Good luck everyone!

Thanks
Sharan

Also the sentence:

links to a page which is intended for developers, not downloaders, and
does not appear to relate to the rest of the paragraph.

Get initial committers who do not have apache ids to send their ICLAs to the
secretary indicating their preferred Apache ID and DataSketches as their
project.
Make sure that all initial committers subscribe to all of the mailing lists
especially private@.

For GitHub access.
(1) id.apache.org make sure that users associate their GitHub username.
(2) On Github.com two factor authentication (2FA) must be enabled for the
Github username.

I would not necessarily gate on the Name Search. I think Tuweni was special and
unusual here since it was a near certainty that Cava was a conflict. Many
podlings do not do a name search until near graduation. I’ve taken a look at
yours and IMO I don’t think VP, Brand is going to have an issue, but that’s not
my call.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.2.1

2019-04-03 Thread Dave Fisher
Bcc: general@incubator.

You need to use your ovi...@apache.org email address to send to
annou...@apache.org

Before you do send this out I think we should do a review of the note here on
d...@echarts.apache.org first.

Regards,
Dave

There are many download pages you can model, e.g.

If you need help, your mentors will be able to assist.

Re: [ANNOUNCE] Release Apache ECharts (incubating) 4.2.1

2019-04-03 Thread Ovilia
Hi Craig,

Do I need to email an announcement to annou...@apache.org?
I tried so, but it was rejected with the following message:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at apache.org.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

:
Must be sent from an @apache.org address.

Re: [VOTE] Release Apache Druid (incubating) 0.14.0 [RC3]

2019-04-03 Thread sebb
Top-posting:

Announcements of podling release should please include the standard
Incubation disclaimer. (AFAICT this did not happen with the previous
Druid announce)

See for example:

https://lists.apache.org/thread.html/d94b89e6c4e83f2364607b47020ca715aaa7fae1a3b97b374b93ca7f@%3Cgeneral.incubator.apache.org%3E

Please bear this in mind when the vote has finished.

Thanks.

Thank you very much for this Dave!

I have updated the https://github.com/apache/incubator README accordingly,
please cross-check. Giving that URL to someone should provide all the info they
need to edit and publish the website.
