[LAZY CONSENSUS] Suitable Name Search Documentation

2020-11-30 Thread Dave Fisher
On this page:

https://incubator.apache.org/guides/names.html

We are providing what is essentially the same information that is on the
official Branding documentation.

https://www.apache.org/foundation/marks/naming.html#namesearch

I suggest that we eliminate everything that is on the Incubator page that is a
“duplicate" and point to the source of record.

Dave

SAMOA roll call - no Mentor since June

2020-11-30 Thread Dave Fisher
Hi -

SAMOA has no mentors. This has been so since June when the last Mentor
resigned. There has been no meaningful conversation on their mailing list since
shortly afterwards when they had a volunteer, but nothing apparently happened
afterwards. There has been no change in the code repository since February.

We have two choices.

(1) Retirement of the SAMOA podling.

(2) Find new mentors and try to reinvigorate the project.

I think that depends on their being a SAMOA community left.

SAMOA has integrations with ML and Topologies like S4(retired), Samza, Flink,
Storm, and was working on a Heron integration.

If anyone has an interest in continuing the SAMOA podling then please respond
to this Roll Call.

Regards,
Dave - IPMC Shepherd for SAMOA this reporting cycle.

Checksums, signatures, incubator in name, NOTICE, and LICENSE all check out.

Note these are both source code releases with a DISCLAIMER-WIP.
There is still a very large amount of licensing work to do.

There is encryption software included. An ECCN filing is needed on
http://www.apache.org/licenses/exports/. Ask your mentors for help.

I have some concerns about the FAT patent and Field of Use on chip specific
software. You may want to discuss these with a LEGAL jira issue.

Signatures, Checksums, DISCLAIMER-WIP, NOTICE, and LICENSE checkout.

Rat check looks ok on source. A .rat-excludes file would help as licensing is
further reviewed.

Server binary spot check of license on mvnrepository.com shows proper license
choices for selected dependency jars.

Likely the project should be able to attain proper LICENSE in binaries in next
release.

Checked sigs and sums: Matched
Checked DISCLAIMER-WIP: In place
Built from src: Successfully built 'sim:nsh' under CentOS 7.3 using the
Dockerfile from incubator-nuttx-testing project
Tried the binary: Tried basic commands such as 'ls', and quited with
command 'poweroff', all fine

I saw that the community has done a great job on contacting the top
contributors to sign ICLA. Hope in the next release we could see most files
are under the Apache 2.0 license and owned by ASF.

Thanks.
