Sorry to bring back this long dead topic, but wanted to rehash what was
discussed here.

We're now 3 months later, and it seems that Concerted has not improved. is
it time to call it?

I ran it through my usual compliance check, which yielded:

Non-compliant license (Mozilla Public License/2.0) found in
incubator-metron-Metron_0.1BETA_rc7/metron-streaming/Metron-Common/src/test/resources/effective_tld_names.dat

Non-compliant license (Mozilla Public License/2.0) found in
incubator-metron-Metron_0.1BETA_rc7/metron-streaming/Metron-Topologies/src/main/resources/effective_tld_names.dat

Non-compliant license (Mozilla Public License/2.0) found in
incubator-metron-Metron_0.1BETA_rc7/metron-streaming/Metron-MessageParsers/src/test/resources/effective_tld_names.dat

This seems to be a -1 to me, but I'm open to being told otherwise :)

Hey Daniel,

Thanks for looking at it. Yes, that reference file is licensed under MPL
and as per the instructions at
http://www.apache.org/legal/resolved.html#category-b:

We added what we considered appropriate language to the LICENSE. See
https://github.com/apache/incubator-metron/blob/Metron_0.1BETA_rc7/LICENSE#L306

If we didn't do that right, let us know and we'll change it PDQ.

Daniel,

MPL isn't explicitly restricted. see [1]. It looks like the podling has
properly cited it, see [2]. This does generally say that you cannot
include in a source release.

2016-04-07 Thread Julian Hyde
I agree. I think this project has been dead for a while, and we’re just
prolonging the agony.

If we were to wind up the project, how would we proceed? A vote on concerted's
dev list with lazy consensus, I presume?

Is there any reason why I should not start a discussion/vote right now?

FWIW: I'm honestly very relaxed about the # of committers. All the project
has to have is an active PMC of at least 3. That's the MVP in ASF sense
as far as I'm concerned.

Re: Concerted may be in need of help

2016-04-07 Thread Chris Nauroth
Hello John,

Thank you for bringing up the topic again. As a Concerted mentor, I was
planning to do the same today.

Just to confirm your observations, you are correct that there has been no
further visible progress. The only activity on the mailing list is from
the mentors asking if anything is going on and reminding the community to
file their reports. Again, there is no report.

I'm not demanding any specific amount of activity, but complete lack of
any activity sure makes it look like the podling is not viable. I don't
think there is any remaining action that could be done by either the
mentors or the wider Incubator community to salvage it, but I'm certainly
open to suggestions if anyone disagrees.

I say let it go.

My own guess is that unless there is a strong recruitment effort it will
soon become unreleasable, but, as Roman points out, there are mechanisms to
deal with that.

Draft Report April 2016 - please review

2016-04-07 Thread John D. Ament
All,

Below is the current draft of the April 2016 report. I'm sending it early,
and likely often, to help muster community input on the various sections of
the report. As of now, 1 day past due, we are still missing 4 podling
reports. I have doubts that they'll be completed, but hopefully this email
will server as hope to those podlings to report.

We have 1 confirmed graduation, 1 likely confirmed graduation and a third
vote in progress (also likely to pass as of now).

Incubator PMC report for April 2016

The Apache Incubator is the entry path into the ASF for projects and
codebases wishing to become part of the Foundation's efforts.

Apex

Apex is an enterprise grade native YARN big data-in-motion platform that
unifies stream processing and batch processing.

Apex has been incubating since 2015-08-17.

Three most important issues to address in the move towards graduation:

None. Incubator graduation VOTE passed: https://s.apache.org/qhTf

Any issues that the Incubator PMC (IPMC) or ASF Board wish/need to be aware

[RESULT] [VOTE] Graduate Johnzon from the Incubator

2016-04-07 Thread Hendrik Dev
I think we reached consensus, so let me close this vote and report the
(formal) result:

There are 11 +1 votes (more than 5 of them binding), no 0 and no -1
votes (one was withdrawn)

So this vote passed, we will submit the resolution to the board.

Thanks to all who cast their vote and thanks also for the discussion.

So what do we have to do to draw this vote to a resolution? It seems that
the general consensus is positive to graduate, but there's some concerns
over the size of the podling. It satisfies the minimum practical TLP.

no disagreement here, i've observed the same and agree that this project
has not been able to develop or attract any sort of community involvement

[VOTE] Graduate AsterixDB from the Incubator

2016-04-07 Thread Till Westmann
Hi,

AsterixDB started incubating a little more than a year ago (2015-02-28) [1]
and the members of the community think that it is ready to graduate from the
incubator to be a TLP.

Since starting incubation the community has shipped 2 incubating Apache
releases for AsterixDB and Hyracks:
- Apache AsterixDB 0.8.7-incubating (2015-10-22)
  and Hyracks 0.2.16-incubating (2015-09-22)
- Apache AsterixDB 0.8.8-incubating (2016-02-26)
  and Hyracks 0.2.17-incubating (2016-02-26)

The AsterixDB community today is open and very active and distributed over
several continents. It has also grown during incubation and Chris Hillery
(2015-10-20), Heri Ramampiaro (2016-01-16), and Michael Blow (2016-03-28)
have been added as committers and PPMC members

AsterixDB's community passed a supporting vote with 26 +1 votes (3 of those
were from the podling's mentors Chris Mattmann, Henry Saputra, and Ate
Douma) and no 0 or -1 votes [2].

The proposed board resolution is attached.

Please vote if the Apache Incubator PMC should recommend the creation of the
Apache AsterixDB project to the Board.

[ ] +1 Recommend the creation of the Apache AsterixDB project.
[ ] 0 Don't care.
[ ] -1 The Apache AsterixDB podling is not ready to graduate because ...

Thanks for your VOTE,
Till (on behalf of the Apache AsterixDB PPMC).
