  Chain was promoted from the sandbox to Commons Proper in July, and is
currently working its way through the release process towards Chain 1.0.
* Configuration
  Commons Configuration is an API to deal easily with various configuration
formats (properties files, xml files, JNDI...) We have finally stabilized and
released the first official release after a slow maturation of 3 years across
various Jakarta projects. Many new ideas are floating around and a new release
(1.1) is expected in late December or early January.

+   * Daemon
+ Commons Daemon, although quiet on the mailing list and in Bugzilla, has
seen a few bug fixes and improvements.
+ Efforts have been made to improve stability on various operating systems.
 A Commons-Daemon 1.1 release is
+ forthcoming, most likely in early 2005.

* Email (comment needed on promotion)
* HttpClient
   HttpClient has entered the 3.0 beta stage. The API is now frozen unless
major problems are discovered. We hope to have a final 3.0 release by the end

Watchdog-dev is gone. Watchdog-user is still around, but with no
moderation and minimal to no activity. It's time to direct people to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] I think, following our discussion along these lines from

If anything, Watchdog is more dead now than it was six months ago,

I'd like to not have to monitor watchdog-user anymore, although if Danny
wants to stay no top of it of course he's welcome to ;)

I don't know how much vetting we do, but despite the fact that this is a
vendor page, I believe that a lot of people would complain about the phrase
[Covalent is] the only source of full commercial support for Apache

Now that the ASF has established the PRC, perhaps it is time we turned
control over such vendor pages to the PRC to make sure that a message
consistent with the ASF's neutrality is preserved.

Also, Apache Tomcat are the wrong ways to respond to those products.
I don't think there's anything official that states the correct names yet,
but as far as I know it should be:

'Apache HTTP Server'

'Apache Tomcat' or 'Apache Jakarta Tomcat'
I assume there are rules on how to use these once, then use a shorter
version, but I've no understanding of trademarks etc. Others on this list
do. I just know that the ASF is working to maintain them by asking that
people refer to the products correctly.
