[gentoo-announce] Gentoo Services Migration: Bugzilla, Forums, Wiki
Hi! This is a notification that multiple Gentoo services (bugzilla, forums, wiki) will be moving and temporarily offline possibly until sometime Saturday 2023/04/01. We're aiming to keep the interruption much shorter, but the backup plan is a 3-4 day outage. Forums may have the longest outage, due to the age of the codebase. For the duration, the sites will be covered by maintenance page that serves only 503 errors. https://infra-outage-info.gentoo.org/ Updates will be posted on https://infra-status.gentoo.org/ Why? A sponsor is decommissioning the physical hosting behind these services. On behalf of Infra, I'd extend a thanks to that long-time sponsor: Gossamer Threads, now part of Carbon60 [1], have hosted multiple Gentoo services continuously since July 2009. They are also donating some of the old hardware to Gentoo, and we hope to be able to repurpose some of it. Interested in Donating [2] to or Sponsoring Gentoo? [gentoo-announce] Nitrokey partners with Gentoo Foundation to equip developers with USB keys
The Gentoo Foundation[1] has partnered with Nitrokey[2] to equip all Gentoo developers with free Nitrokey Pro 2[3] devices. Gentoo developers will use the Nitrokey devices to store cryptographic keys for signing of git commits and software packages, GnuPG keys, and SSH accounts. Thanks to the Gentoo Foundation and NitrokeyĆ¢s discount, each Gentoo developer is eligible to receive one free Nitrokey Pro 2. To receive their Nitrokey, developers will need to register with their @gentoo.org email address at the dedicated order form [4]. A Nitrokey Pro 2 Guide[5] is available on the Gentoo Wiki with FAQ & instructions for integrating Nitrokeys into developer workflow. ABOUT NITROKEY PRO 2 "Nitrokey Pro 2"[3] has strong reliable hardware encryption, thanks to open source. It can help you to: sign Git commits; encrypt emails and files; secure server access; and protect accounts against identity theft via two-factor authentication (one-time passwords). ABOUT GENTOO Gentoo Linux[7] is a free, source-based, rolling release meta distribution that features a high degree of flexibility and high performance. [gentoo-announce] Service relaunch: archives.gentoo.org
The Gentoo Infrastructure team is proud to announce that we have re-engineered the mailing list archives, and re-launched it, back at archives.gentoo.org. The prior Mhonarc-based system had numerous problems, and a complete revamp was deemed the best forward solution to move forward with. The new system is powered by ElasticSearch (more features to come). All existing URLs should either work directly, or redirect you to the new location for that content. Major thanks to a3li, for his development of this project. Note that we're still doing some catchup on newer messages, but delays will drop to under 2 hours soon, with an eventual goal of under 30 minutes. [gentoo-announce] New Portage snapshot signing key (0x96D8BF6D / 4096-RSA)

[gentoo-announce] Recent lists mail loss
As the listadmin, I'd like to apologize for some recent lists mail loss. A spammer managed to get a subscription confirmation email send to a spamtrap address, that promptly caused the lists server to be listed on a blacklist for 12-14 hours. During that time, approximately 2000 list deliveries were rejected due to the RBL. First recorded rejection was around Feb 1 00:20 UTC, last recorded was Feb 1 13:35 UTC. I've included full log details in a blogpost: http://robbat2.livejournal.com/236942.html If you know anybody that runs similar spamtraps, please ask them to ensure list confirmation requests are NOT treated as spam. -- Robin Hugh Johnson Gentoo Linux: Developer, Trustee Infrastructure Lead E-Mail : robb...@gentoo.org GnuPG FP : 11AC BA4F 4778 E3F6 E4ED F38E B27B 944E 3488 4E85 pgpzsb1oroz7X.pgp Description: PGP signature
[gentoo-announce] Release Engineering PGP signing keys
As the infrastructure liaison to release engineering, I'd like to provide a status update and clarification on the matter of PGP signing keys. For older releases, we used key ID 0x17072058, however this key was strictly controlled and only used for non-automated releases. We intend to keep this key seperate for this reason. For the new weekly releases, as of last week, they are signed, with a new unattended key, ID 0x2D182910. The active list of signing keys is now being made available here: http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/ Complete list of IDs and fingerprints, as of 2009/09/02. [gentoo-announce] In memory of Ferris E. McCormick (fmccor): trustee, developer, and friend
All, It is with sadness that we as Trustee's bring forward this news that we have recently received. Ferris Ellsworth McCormick, better known as fmccor, has passed away unexpectedly on the 5th of August. His family does not wish to be contacted. We have expressed our gratitude for his contributions on behalf of the Community. Ferris studied mathematics in college at Indiana University, graduating in 1968 with a Bachelor of Arts. Later he entered into the Law school at the University of Michigan, earning his Juris Doctor degree in 1991. He passed the bar in Michigan that same year and has continued to be an actively certified Lawyer with the State of Michigan since then. He was also a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). Ferris joined Gentoo on April 16th 2004 as part of the sparc team and improved sparc support for the entire open source community. Within a year he also joined the Developer Relations team to help with mediation of any issues that might come up between people. As time went on Ferris continued to expand and assist Gentoo in many ways including assisting with the User Relations team and growing to become the Strategic Manager of the sparc project. Finally, he became a trustee and the Vice President of the Foundation assisting in getting the foundation back into good standing. While it is too late to say in person, the Foundation would like to thank Ferris once again for all that he did for both Gentoo and the Open source community. He will be missed. Please join the community in eulogizing Ferris in our forums [1]. 1. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-5930501.html -- Robin Hugh Johnson Gentoo Linux: Developer, Trustee Infrastructure Lead E-Mail : robb...@gentoo.org GnuPG FP : 11AC BA4F 4778 E3F6 E4ED F38E B27B 944E 3488 4E85 pgpzVz9XSKb17.pgp Description: PGP signature
