Sure, the moving target thing was worrying me too. But ciaran has actually
said that it'll be basically what portage should be doing atm (ie ignoring
bugs.)

I don't see what's wrong with documenting legacy behaviour, so long as it is
marked as such, or is in a legacy doc- not the spec used for future dev.
But still, this is all moot as the work is in hand.

 Also in general it's easier to extend a spec than to restrict it later
 on, no matter what the spec is about.

0.7, needs a rewrite of the ebuild. I tried to do it, but this version

more interaction from the user. It's not viable to install it using portage.

I'm hoping to advocate some more cleanups in sys-libs/db by proposing the 
removal of
4.0.* and 4.1.* from portage.  4.2 has been stable for a long time, with 4.3
unstable and 4.4 and 4.5 available in package.mask.

If anyone has a package that won't work with =sys-libs/db-4.2* please reply.  
Note
that this doesn't affect the 1.85 and 3.2.9 series'.
