[gentoo-dev] PHP targets
I just tried to update one of my systems, and the emerge -uavDN world failed due to the requirement of php_targets_php5-2. Now, I do have php installed on this box, but I had never set the targets so far. Perhaps a news item or some other notification for this kind of stuff wouldn't be out of order? Now I had to go googling for php targets. I found the upgrading guide, but it seems kind of annoying that we don't provide more guidance if we're going to mandate some more configuration on the part of unsuspecting users. Cheers, Dirkjan

Not only the existing plasmoids, but adding new versions of it, to both the desktop/ activity and a panel, it all works. We /are/ talking about the package that provides the quickaccess plasmoid, right? Sort of like folderview but creates a menu when it is placed on a desktop (activity) as well as when in a panel, thus taking up far less room on the desktop? CCing the bug for further discussion, but it certainly works just fine for me! Why remove what's working? -- Duncan - List replies preferred. No HTML msgs. Also, we need to to cut down on the actual versions the problem is present on, so that we can give a good idea to our users. As far as I can tell, the 0.9 series is not involved, so it shouldn't require rebuild if that's used. Comments from the others?

No, it does mean that the scripts package itself is updated, so it installs the udev stuff into /lib/udev and the baselayout-1 addon into /$(get_libdir)/rcscripts/addons. I think I should clone the git tree of these scripts somewhere. Best is git.overlays.gentoo.org, correct? What about the udev-git tree plus gentoo patches? Should that also be published there? [gentoo-dev] Crossdev / glib news item
Hi, I volunteered to help Diego summarize a news item on "crossdev, glib and binary compatibility", see http://blog.flameeyes.eu/2011/05/15/ Here's the result; as I am neither a specialist in the topic nor know much about news items, please be lenient :) -- If you are cross-compiling to a 32-bit architecture such as ARM, or if you are using a 32-bit architecture and have sys-devel/crossdev installed, please be warned that - unless you follow the advice below - your system may become seriously broken. We have recently fixed bug 367351 in sys-devel/crossdev, where the size of the pthread_mutex_t type was hardwired incorrectly into configure scripts. Unfortunately, if the size was incorrect before, switching to the correct value changes the ABI of libgthread. All binaries linked against the previous glib may thus simply crash. You will have to ensure the ABI stability before upgrading crossdev. Information on how to fix this is available at the following URL: http://blog.flameeyes.eu/2011/05/15/ --- Opinions?
