 Please compile and run them against dev-libs/libevent-2.0.6 to see if
 anything breaks, and file bug reports for those packages (or versions)
 that do. When you do, make those block the tracker bug #333077 [1].

I'll set up a tinderbox run...

 It seems like few of our fellow developers don't know how to track
 down
 packages that don't respect LDFLAGS. Adding -Wl,--hash-style=gnu is a
 good way
 to do that. I would like to see this linker flag enabled by default on
 LDFLAGS
 (or at least for the dev/ profiles for now). Do you agree?

It really depends on which glibc the profiles have been using:

 - = 2.5 - force --hash-style=gnu, reduced link time and smaller
files;
 - 2.5 - force --hash-style=sysv, as above, but gnu would make lose
the hash entirely.

Somebody who works with uclibc should let us know which one of the two
is actually supported by which uclibc.

 There should be no legitimate reason for the number to go up so please
 whenever bumping ebuilds, remove the usage of built_with_use.

There is still legitimate use when you're not using it for dependencies.

See for instance PulseAudio ebuild:

 local pkg=media-plugins/alsa-plugins
 if has_version ${pkg}  ! built_with_use --missing false ${pkg}
pulseaudio; then
 elog
 elog You have alsa support enabled so you probably want to
install
 elog ${pkg} with pulseaudio support to have
 elog alsa using applications route their sound through
pulseaudio

 For changes of this sort, abusing the tinderboxes to get a real world
 test run makes a lot of sense.

I can put it into run with the tinderbox, no problem with that.

But I think that we should really use both: Patrick's should be better
for I/O so maybe you (or Zac) can come up with a script to just try
unpack and prepare phases for all ebuilds rather than keeping the whole
merge…
