They can always use the previous kernel version that worked too, it's
not like OMG BBQ i'm not on the latest bleeding edge version!!one.

hello all. i would like to propose that we officially drop support for
2.4 kernel profiles (especially default-linux/x86/no-nptl/2.4). over the
last few months it has been increasingly difficult to keep 2.4 systems
up to date. here are some bugs i filed recently discussing this:

 http://bugs.gentoo.org/174697
 unmask linux-headers-2.6 on 2.4 profiles
 (eix 0.8.8 compile failure)

 http://bugs.gentoo.org/154018
 alsa-driver-1.0.13 fails compile on hardened-2.4 and vanilla-sources

 http://bugs.gentoo.org/177357
 media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.14_rc2-r1 compile failure

 thoughts from the arch teams?

It's in the pipe for SPARC, probably by the 2007.1 release.
2007.0 no longer supports 2.4, only 2006.1 does.

[gentoo-dev] Last rites: net-misc/minisip

I'm masking net-misc/minisip and support libraries:
net-misc/libmutil
net-misc/libmnetutil
net-misc/libmikey
net-misc/libmsip

Upstream doesn't do regular releases any longer (just svn checkouts,
even the current tarballs from portage versions are gone), and bugs
#101983 and #150032.
If anyone wants to pick it up speak, otherwise it'll die a silent death
in about 15-30 days.
You can use net-im/ekiga for the gtk-inclined people or kphone for
qt-inclined ones as replacements.

SPARC has showstoppers, so it won't be going stable any time soon.
As usual i'll file a bug with patches once this issues are ironed out.
Or we'll just wait for a newer 2.6.18 dot release, or skip it altogether
in favour of 2.6.19 when it's out (depending on timing, convenience, ...)

Used by the old 2005.0/2005.1 sparc profiles.
Don't worry, they're deprecated and will be removed soon, just hold on
to it for a couple of days.

[gentoo-dev] SPARC hardware donation thanks

2005-07-08 Thread Gustavo Zacarias

I'd like to thank Mike Doty (kingtaco) and the Loyola University of
Chicago for donating and making available online a nice Sun E250 with 2x
US2 @ 400mhz, 2G ram 2x 36G disks for Gentoo development.
The netra is no longer online, so any gentoo devs that want/need a sparc
shell to test their stuff are welcome to ask for an account.
The v240 is reserved for real men(tm), so i'd rather prefer using the
E250 for this until we get another machine that has been donated online.
You don't need to be on the sparc team and/or own a sparc box to
test/keyword stuff, you just need an account on one so you can properly
test your stuff and let us know you'll be doing so in advance so the
alarms don't go off ;-)
Thanks.

[gentoo-dev] Brainless keywording (this time: dev-dotnet)

2005-06-28 Thread Gustavo Zacarias

When will this end?
DON'T KEYWORD STUFF YOU DON'T TEST ON ARCHES, SPECIALLY STUFF THAT WON'T
WORK UNTIL PORTING IS DONE.
I mean, c'mon, it's easy enough... just go to that little Mono page
(http://www.mono-project.com/Main_Page) and check the arch status...
it's not hard... just a simple link. (FYI SPARC is Solaris/SPARC
supported, not Linux/SPARC, just another small click to read that).
Yeah, it may eventually be ported or whatever - i don't care, it's not
ported yet.
Stick to procedures and common sense.
