Re: [gentoo-user] Apache 2

2003-11-08 Thread Lewis Powell
Ok, let me try this again, I was, it would appear, much to imprecise.
I have previously run, "rc-update add apache2 default" and that command
executed successfully; however, when the computer boots, for some reason,
there is an unknown error that prevents apache2 from starting.
Oddly, when I run "/etc/init.d/apache2 start" apache2 starts with no
errors. As a result, I can start it, but for some reason, I must start it
manually.

It's already there, it just doesn't actually succeed in starting up.

[gentoo-user] Apache 2

2003-11-08 Thread Lewis Powell
I am running an apache 2 webserver, but it refuses to load appropriately
on system boot. However, when I run /etc/init.d/apache from the
commandline, it starts up without error or problem; how can I troubleshoot
this so that the server starts when the computer does?

[gentoo-user] emerge -UD world broke lots of stuff

2003-10-25 Thread Lewis Powell
Foolishly, I emerged the whole world to an updated state that is, well,
lets say less than stable. It upgraded me to python 2.3, which causes
its own set of problems, but it also broke GCC by upgrading a version or
two past stable.
So, how do I fix GCC? I'm pretty sure once I get gcc working I can get
the rest of the system back to operational, but not having a working GCC
install is certainly a roadblock to my success.
Thanks all,
Lewis
P.S. I know that emerging the world without carefully reading each
package to be updated is foolish (at least I do now anyway).

Re: [gentoo-user] Re: updating portage broke portage

2003-10-14 Thread Lewis Powell
1st) sorry about messing up the thread, it was accidental.
2nd) so, I can recover portage like you suggested, but then the
instructions want me to upgrade portage again, and that brings the same
problem back. There was, however, a message that I saw this time in the
emerging of portage that mentioned that some python modules were put in
'/var/tmp/portage/portage-2.0.49-r13/
image/usr/lib/python2.2/site-packages/'
However that directory does not exist, and emerge still complains of
missing modules.

[gentoo-user] updating portage broke portage

2003-10-13 Thread Lewis Powell
I just installed the new portage update, and the result is this output
from any portage command:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ultraman $ emerge -p world
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/bin/emerge", line 10, in ?
import
emergehelp,xpak,string,re,commands,time,shutil,traceback,atexit,signal
  File "/usr/lib/portage/bin/emergehelp.py", line 7, in ?
from output import *
ImportError: No module named output

The only thing I can think of that might be a problem is that I upgraded
to python 2.3, and then I remember running some program that updated
portage to use python 2.3. Is is possible that I need to rerun that
program, and if so, what is it?

Re: [gentoo-user] bash_profile

Are you sure that .bash_profile is being sourced somewhere, I know that
bash defaults to checking .bashrc. Make sure that bash is even checking
that file.
