[gentoo-user] cdrom: open failed

2005-09-25 Thread Carl Flippin
I've recently done an install based loosely on the 1/3 method but
using 2005.1 as the base. Everything works fine except for an error
message which I get on bootup. Every time I boot, I get the message:

cdrom: open failed
cdrom: open failed

I get the message twice as shown. I'm guessing I get the message twice
because I have 2 optical drives in the system. Based on when the
message pops up, it appears that the message is coming from /sbin/rc.
When I looked at the script, however, I can't find anything trying to
open a cdrom drive.

Some potentially relevent info:

Kernel: 2.6.13-ck5
GCC: 3.4.4-r1
glibc: 2.3.5

If anybody needs any additional info, I'll be happy to post it. I
didn't want to spam the list unnecessarily.

Thanks,
Carl

Re: [gentoo-user] lvm2 and RAID

2005-09-15 Thread Carl Flippin
I have such a setup. It was fairly easy to do.

For the LVM2 part, just follow this howto:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/lvm2.xml

For the raid part, the documentation you need is here:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-tipsntricks.xml#software-raid

The trick to getting it all to work together is doing the raid setup first
and then using the /dev/md* devices for the LVM2 setup.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Can anyone detail how to create such a setup?
