[gentoo-user] xmms alternative

2006-10-23 Thread Dave V
Hello,

I just read on the gentoo-dev list that xmms is about to be removed, but it's
probably the only sound player that I've used. Could someone recommend a good
alternative. I'm rather surprised that no one wanted to maintain the packages.

Re: [gentoo-user] how to execute some scripts after an emerge

2006-10-06 Thread Dave V
A simple solution would beto use :
emerge -u world echo do whatever

you could also write a wrapper script relatively easily

 Hello!

 Are there hooks in portage with which I can execute some scripts after
 an emerge -u world? I need to check my libraries in the chroot jail :) I
 build for boinc today against their original counterparts in the file
 system. This would be nicer than having a cronjob looking after them at
 fixed intervals.

 Any suggestions welcome.

 greetings,
 Robert

Re: [gentoo-user] date-specific cp/mv

2006-09-28 Thread Dave V
I used to use this for moving old mail to an archive folder. Just change the
directories, and you should be golden.
alias archive='find ~/.maildir/inbox/cur -mtime +30 -exec mv {}
~/.maildir/inbox/archive/cur/. \;'

 Have a look at find. You can whip up a one-liner using the -atime, -mtime
 or -ctime tests (depending on your intent) and use -exec to do the cp or
 mv...

Re: [gentoo-user] sftplogging USE flag in openssh

2006-09-26 Thread Dave V
Here's how to find out:
$ grep sftplogging /usr/portage/profiles/use.*
/usr/portage/profiles/use.local.desc:net-misc/openssh:sftplogging - Enables
sftp logging patch
