Thanks for the reply, I didn't find xorg 1.5.3 unstable, I use every day with
kde 3.5.10 or gnome. I had the mouse and keyboard problem too, but I resolved
commenting out the entry in my xorg config file and switching to udev for
keyboard and mouse configuration. I will try compiling switching back to
1.5.2 to see if something changes.

Thanks again

[gentoo-user] Problem with Kde 4.1.X

2009-01-17 Thread Nicola
Hi,
I have searched on google and bugtrack for weeks for people with a similar
problem with the new kde 4.1.X but I didn't find anything. I have some
problem even to describe the problem beacause I don't know how to figure out
what is wrong with my system. The real problem is that kde 4.1.X didn't start
if I use kwin. I only get it start if I use another window decorator (for
example compiz). I have tried with 4.1.3 and 4.1.4 but with the same problem.
After the login screen i get the splash screen but at the end of the sequence
I'm kicked out to the login screen.
I need some advice to how and where begin to search for the problem. Which
file I need to parse in search of the problem? Is there on the ML someone
whith the same problem?

Xorg:1.5.3-r1
nvidia-drivers:177.82
kernel:2.6.27-r7

Intel Core2Duo 8400
nvidia geforce8800GT

Thanks

Nicola

Re: [gentoo-user] nvidia driver 177.80 + xorg 1.5.1 + Compiz

2008-10-27 Thread Nicola
Hi! Good news for me and all nvidia + compiz fan!!
I have just upgraded my gentoo box to xorg 7.4 + nvidia 177.80 and
compiz-fusion 0.7.8 and everyting is working like a charm!
Using kde3.5.9 or gnome everyting is fast and stable.
The command
nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=2 -a GlyphCache=1
seem to help the resizing effect.
I have also tried kde4.1 with compiz and apart a little slowness moving around
some plasmoid (like the Desktop plasmoid) I have seen many improvements.

So for me the subject of this thread is closed.

To reply to Roy, I have no problem compiling mplayer-1.0_rc2_p27725, for
util-linux or encfs no ~x86 sorry.

Lucky!!

Excuse me, could you write down your system configuration?

Xorg version, Kernel version, Gcc, Nvidia-drivers, Hal version, compiz-fusion
version.

Thanks a lot!!

Nicola.

[gentoo-user] nvidia driver 177.80 + xorg 1.5.1 + Compiz

2008-10-13 Thread Nicola
Hi!
Somebody out there try to set up the latest xorg server (and all the ~x86
dependency) the latest nvidia driver and compiz?
I would like to try, but my latest attempt three weeks ago caused same crazy
problems (X didn't start at all), and I am not so crazy to do the same
mistake twice in a row, without some prior advices. Well in my latest attempt
I used xorg 1.4.2 and 173.14 nvidia drivers (I don't like Marked beta
software).

Thanks

Nicola

I'am using Flash 9.0.124.0 and no problem with the high-res video you pasted.

Very nice!

Re: [gentoo-user] Linux & Motherboard

2008-03-25 Thread Nicola Degl'Innocenti
Thanks for the reply.
I love linux, his power and flexibility, but i don't think buying a p3 or
athon X2 64 only to have linux on Bios. I didn't know that project but it
seem quite interesting. I hope some major motherboard builders seriusly
invest on the project and bring it to the world of the home computers. It
would be pretty interesting to see on market linux bios and Ami or other
vendors bios .
So for my question I thanks again for the reply. If there are no problems with
nvidia or intel mobo (but this is true for all the nvidia and intel mobo?
There are no problem with other chipset integrated on the motherboard?), then
I need to focus on performance (SLI or future upgrade) and princing.

Thank you again.

Nicola

Ps
I think my choice is restricted only at:
P5N32-E
P5K/pro

[gentoo-user] Linux & Motherboard

2008-03-24 Thread Nicola Degl'Innocenti
Hi!
I would like to buy a new pc, but since I use linux more than windows (that i
use only for gaming), I am interested in hardware compatibility with linux.

I'm planing to buy a core 2 Duo platform with a nvidia 8800 GT, but i am very
confused about the motherboard. The cheapest shop vendor only have asus
motherboard so i don't have much choice.
- Asus P5E X38 DDR2 for 189 €
- Asus P5K/pro iP35 for 114 €
- Asus P5N32-E/SLI 680i for 199€
- Asus P5N-T dlx 780i 232€

Someone have one of those cards or know a good site with information about
linux compatibility for those cards?

The SLI capability is not important as having ethernet or sound supported on
linux.

Thank a lot.

[gentoo-user] DVD 2.4 to DVD5

2007-06-11 Thread Nicola Degl'Innocenti
Hi!
I am a new member of this list, my name is Nicola and I am from italy.
And, oh yes, I am a Gentoo User!

I have bought a new camcorder with minidvd, and i need to convert this mini
dvd to the standard video dvd (4.7Gb) preferibly without addictional
compression and in a simply way :-)

Is there any linux tool (with graphical interface or testual one) that can do
the trick? With the camcorder is shipped a custom version of nero that do the
conversion but I have removed windows very long ago and I don't need it.
Well, I think is all.

Thanks a lot
