[gentoo-user] /dev/hda1 is gone!

My /dev/hda1 block device file is gone.  I know I can create the
file /dev/hda1 with touch, but how do I make it a block device file?

mknod /dev/hda1 b 3 1

aren't you using udev or devfs?

I had this happen once.  The drive appeared to be good, but in fact it
was only half dead.  It took about 2 weeks for it to completely die.
