[gentoo-user] [OT] Rootwindow Sysmon?

2009-09-16 Thread meino . cramer

Hi,

on my way to the best window manager (at least for my needs ;) )
I came across a lot of screenshots of themes.
More than one screenshot shows something which looks like a
system monitor a la gkrellm but it was painted plain onto
the background / root window.

Does anyone know, what application is used for this?

Thanks you very much in advance for any help!
Keep hacking!

It may help if you point us to the screen shot.

But quite a few X applications allow drawing directly to the root
window. For example, torsmo and conky (both in portage), supports the
-w switch to specify the window id. You just need to specify the right
one for the root window :)

Hi,

thank you for your posting ! :)

Screenshot? ...oh yes! Sorry...
Here it is (upper left corner):

By the way; For an unkown reason to me I am not
able to download any theme from customize org.
Is this a javascript problem? Does anyone else
managed to download a theme from there?

Correction, torsmo is gone from portage since at least 3 years ago, conky
was born as a fork of torsmo, and it's being actively developed, while
torsmo has been discontinue upstream.

Ah... seems that the page I bookmarked in firefox is a bit old ;p
(I did some research on this myself years ago...)
Thanks for the correction.

Also, looking at the screenshot, it seems my random shot-gun guess
work may be correct in regards to which program it was used...

Best,

Hi,

looks like a very basic conky configuration

Definitely conky [1]... and that's a rather minimal config for it.

I use a slightly modified version of the triple setup down at the
bottom of that page [2], and it gives me at-a-glance info on just
about everything related to my little laptop.

As for downloading from customize.org, it doesn't appear to use js at
all in the download... what's the actual effect when you click one of
the d/l links?
