Judging by the comment in the ebuild, gconf is only used to set the
default browser. If that won't affect you, you could just add it to
package.provided as a quick fix until a use flag is added for it.
That's what I did, and firefox seems to run fine without it.

Mostly stable here but thanks for the heads up; now I know I need to
find a better browser... wish they would just scrap that stinking pile
of... gconf. :-/

A big show stopper for the all who do not want to have any gnome
