Ha! I just upgraded to 4.9.6-r1 gentoo kernel sources and I can no longer mount USB sticks! I can still mount them using pmount on the CLI, but the desktop click-to-mount function does not work in Plasma, KDE applications or enlightenment. But before I was set back by not being able to log in to Plasma with lightdm. Only sddm works. Anyhoo, the newly installed system also has my storage media permission problem. When you start removing kde4 and install more and more kde5 (kde and plasma is the same for me) errors like that start disappearing.
