Can I get the fan to never increase to the higher speed? - Grant the box cooler is PWM controlled. FORGET BIOS. There is a much better solution: fancontrol. It is part of lm_sensors and adapts the fan speed to the cpu temperature. The app to config it is 'pwmconfig' BIOS works just as well here.

BIOS did it, thank you very much. - Grant

It doesn't switch between speeds but as the temperature increases the speed increases until it reaches a balance point. I have a ThermalTake cooler and that is how it works but there may be others. The temp sensor is attached under the CPU between the CPU and the socket. Mine has worked well for about five years now. Just something to consider. If you have a lappy, never mind. You may be stuck with the BIOS option. Dale :-) :-)

The 6000+ comes with a fan that seems to have two speeds and the faster speed is pretty loud. Can I get the fan to never increase to the higher speed? Search for options in the BIOS. Mine has several profiles for fan behavior (temperatures/fan speeds). If yours doesn't, you can use the lm_sensors package to set up various fan speeds at various temperatures.
