I'm all out of ideas

what libs does firefox use to render images?

[gentoo-user] In Any Build of Firefox I Make it Uses a Poor Method of Downscaling

2016-05-19 Thread TheXzoron
This a repost from the forums in an attempt to hopefully reach someone
who only reads one medium regularly
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7921188.html
but I still haven't managed to find the reason why my build chooses to
use a bad downscaling method.

Well I've tried firefox-bin in my default profile aswell as in a new
profile and everything was downscaled fine so I'm pretty sure it has to
do with something in the build process at this point.

You indicate in the forum thread that gtk3 makes no difference, so the
differences left are bindist (not relevant I think, applies to firefox
branding) and I use system libs whereas you don't.

It will be easier for folks here to help you if you paste your forum

PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET sets the version of python for a package that can
only be installed with a single python. PYTHON_TARGETS sets the versions
of python a python package will be installed to/with for packages that
can be installed to multiple python versions.

You have PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET=python3_4, but PYTHON_TARGETS does *not*
contain python3_4. This is bad.

The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:

This is the line that enforces the above (i.e. PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET must

This is not the problem and can be removed.

But the problem persists, nothing has changed. "eselect python list"
lists that I've got Python 2.7, 3.4 and 3.5 installed. I've just noticed
that doing "emerge --info ki18n" shows:

  PYTHON SINGLE_TARGET="python3_5"

what?

What do you have PYTHON_TARGETS and PYTHON_SINGLE_TARGET in
/etc/portage/make.conf?

I've done some analysis/fiddling based upon your suggestions and it

[gentoo-user] How to add a USB printer to CUPS if CUPS doesn't see it

2016-05-19 Thread Helmut Jarausch

Hi,

on a up-to-date GenToo installation I tried to get CUPS to recognize a
Brother DCP1510 printer.
lsusb and lshw do show the printer but CUPS (http::/localhost:631)
doesn't show the printer (as local printer).

Has anybody experienced a similar problem or has anybody a suggestion
what to try next?

Many thanks for your help,
Helmut.
