Just to follow-up to ghc-devs, after a short off-list conversation, and
a couple of fixes to the build-system, the builder logs seem to have
been muted, judging from

I hope you are the right person to ask, but it looks like after folding

the build's checking clean step reports a lot of non-deleted files. This
