This is very nice, thank you. I have sent you an invitation to the
project. I'm currently vacation mode so my online time is a bit random,
if you have any questions feel free to use mail; I'm back at work
starting October 4th which means reachability through normal european
office times.

I downloaded GIMP and so far I think most everything is fine except “when I use
the export function it won’t show the external drive in the list of possible
functions.

[Gimp-developer] Requirement documentation GIMP

2021-10-06 Thread Vries, S.A. de (Sanne) via gimp-developer-list
Dear people from GIMP,

We are two students from Utrecht University, currently enrolled in the course
Software Production. For this course, we are going to write a scientific paper
on the topic of requirements. In this paper, we are going to focus on how
requirements are formulated for open source software. We wanted to pick GIMP as
a case study for analyzing the structure of requirements.

For this, we need documentation on the requirements of GIMP After a search on
the Internet, we could not find any specification document on the requirements.
Therefore, we were wondering if you could help us out by sending us
documentation on the requirements used when developing the product? By this we
mean the product requirements (maybe specified in a user story or ‘shall’
format), and not requirements for the developers of the code.

In our research, we are going to analyse the structure of the requirements with
a NLP tool and investigate whether recurring patterns can be found. Moreover,
we are planning on sending a survey about what kind of requirement structures
are better perceived. We could share the results of the paper with you.

Thank you in advance for considering. Your input would be of great help to our
project.

Kind regards,

Sanne de Vries & Iris de Wildt

I sent you a response there too, just a bit ago. 

Sure. We now have someone new very recently who has been working on
compiling the dev code (finally!) for macOS. It's still a work-in-progress
but promising. Of course, the more we are, the better, so it should not
prevent you from helping too. This would be a great milestone, I don't
think I saw 2 active macOS code contributors at a time for the last 9 years
I have been around. 

Sure.

Yes definitely. Current contributor is trying to figure out a few issues
already, for instance: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/7319

Definitely M1 support would be awesome too.

Yes sure. But that's detail. Signing is already all set-up. Now what we
need to look at is to build and run (without crashing) GIMP dev code.
That's the next big thing. Signing is useless without this. 

Anyway as said on LinuxFr, discussing on #gimp IRC channel at irc.gimp.org
is probably the best (now soon going to bed and tomorrow might not be too
available during the day, but in the evening or next days, sure; you might
also be able to talk to lukaso, the other macOS contributor, on IRC too if
around).

[Gimp-developer] Need help for the macOS package?

2021-10-06 Thread Ludovic Rousseau via gimp-developer-list
Hello,

After Jehan asked for help on
https://linuxfr.org/news/sortie-de-gimp-2-10-28-et-nouvelles-autour-du-projet
I plan to (try to) work the macOS package.

I have never compiled GIMP myself.
I forked and cloned
https://gitlab.gnome.org/Infrastructure/gimp-macos-build and
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp
My first step will be to rebuild GIMP locally.

I already use jhbuild to build/package Grisbi for macOS. So this is
not a new technology to me.
But I guess that building GIMP will bring new challenges :-)

I may even try to create a Universal Binary with both Intel and ARM
CPUs support.

I see the macOS binary is signed by "Developer ID Application: GNOME
Foundation (T25BQ8HSJF)". I guess someone here has access to the
private key.

Regards,
