[Gimp-user] Using Text

2002-03-04 Thread KEVIN.BRYSON

Hello There,

I know my query will sound very basic to you guys who know all about
GIMP, but I am just an old codger who like to play with this sort of
program.

I am trying to modify a graphic document by changing the existing text.
I have managed to erase the existing text, but I can't get the Text Tool
to work. I have printed out the on-line manual, but there is no
information in the Text page. I have also browsed through all of the
Tutorials I can find, but my problem is obviously too elementary to be
covered in them.

If someone could point me in the right direction to find some basic
tuition on using the Text Tool I would greatly appreciate it.

I live in New Zealand.

Many thanks,

Kevin Bryson.

Re: [Gimp-user] OpenOffice GPL'd Truetype fonts not working

2002-03-04 Thread Jeff Trefftzs

Hi David -

I downloaded and installed the fonts you're talking about on my
RH-6.1 system, getting them from the debian site, and, once I
got my font servers to find them, they seem to be working fine
on with my GIMP. (1.2.3), even with the old text tool,

I'm afraid I can't duplicate your problem on my system.

[Gimp-user] fonts on Red Hat 7.2 resolved

Red Hat 7.2 uses XFree86 4.1, I believe. This combination now uses
the X font server - xfs - instead of handling fonts internally as it did
in previous versions of the XFree86 server. So when you make changes to the
fs/config file you need to restart the font server:

   /etc/rc.d/init.d/xfs restart

You should be able to do this without restarting your X session.

One quick way to check if you're already using the font server (aside from
checking for it with the ps command) is to query the X server:

   xset q

If you see something like this in the output:

Font Path:
  unix/:7100, ...

then you're using the font server. That unix/:7100 is the port the X server
is using to talk to a font server.

The 100dpi stuff is unnecessary. Its just a duplicate of the 75dpi stuff but
for a different resolution. Your monitor is likely at (or near) 75dpi, so
you don't need the 100dpi directory. I don't know about any others that
might be duplicates.
