I tried various methods to convert a multi-layered TIFF I created using
Krita, but none of those would open in Gimp. I actually converted the
TIFF to PSD using ImageMagick, but Gimp complained about an unknown
compression type in layers.

You may want to try this TIFF specific mailing list:

http://lists.maptools.org/mailman/listinfo/tiff

Maybe you can get a hint there on how to go about converting
your images.

Claus

All Windows GIMP releases from 2.0.5 onwards are available on SourceForge's
Releases page.

Are you sure? when I used my favorite search engine with the file name
of the window's installer [ "gimp-2.6.5-i686-setup.exe" ] for GIMP 2.6.5
as the search parameter, I found multiple sources from which the Windows
installer for GIMP 2.6.5 can be downloaded. In addition, the source code
for all GIMP versions is available through the GIMP website.

But you might also take a page from my "playbook": I save nearly every
software upgrade I download. A habit, I suppose, going back to my first
days of internet use, when I had slow dial-up service, informed by the
fact that my first download to about three hours, and it took me
multiple attempts to download the complete file. Somehow, after
downloading, I botched the file, and trashed the downloaded installer
after saving it; when I needed (for reasons I can't recall at this
point) to re-install, I had to download again. Last time that happened.

2009-04-16 Thread Agnes Goh
Hi,

I like gimp very much too. And I have just installed 2.6.6 and 2.6.5 but both
also encountered the same issue. Everytime I opened a new file it will auto
shut down. I also hope to get advise on the issue.

Regards
Agnes

Hi, I'm getting this problem all the time, and so are a couple of friends who
have installed 2.6.6. Has there been any comment from the Gimp authorities? I
wanted to uninstall 2.6.6 and return to 2.6.5 but that version appears not to
be available any more. I love Gimp but this is very frustrating.

Restructuring of menus caused this. What you want, is the File->Create menu.
Hope that helps!

[Gimp-user] sane

2009-04-16 Thread David Miller
I have used the gimp, very lightly, for many years, starting back with
about Redhat 3.
With every install or upgrade the acquire has always been in the menu.
I upgraded from Fedora 7 to Fedora 9 recently and that upgraded the gimp
to 2.6. I have checked every where I know to check and can't find an
acquire button.
Why would it be removed?
