RE: [Gimp-user] Masks, layers...etc...

Each
layer should have an opacity setting, it is set using the sliding bar located in
the "Layer, Channels Paths" dialog.

layers...etc...

I have been trying to make a sci-fi ship
texture... and i have come to a problem.

I find that layers do not have an opacity
setting and masks do, but masks can only be black and white...

how would i make it color?

Thanks

 hi...

trying to do some layer manipulation ie: paste an object in a scene and
have the object be 'behind' the scene ie: fish behind a tree ( okay weird
but its in the groking the gimp G )...I can do it 'manually' using the
example in groking the gimpbut I know i've done it before using
stack lower layer ..but I've forgotten how its done..

 thx anyone :)

Hi Lee -

To get the fish behind the tree you need to have the tree on one
layer, the fish on another layer, and the rest of the scene on
yet another layer.

If you can cut out both the tree and the fish, then you can
simply layer them above the original background; Grokking the
gimp uses layer masks to partially hide those bits of the fish
that are behind the tree.
