Try the quick mask, and gradient tool.

Hi, Saw this on Digg last night:
http://forums.livingwithstyle.com/showthread.php?t=342065

Anyone know how to do a gradient selection in GIMP? I've seen various
mentions of it, but I cant find it in the docs:
/usr/share/gimp/2.0/help/en/index.html

/usr/share/gimp/2.0/help/en/gimp-selection-feather.html
This seems to be missing from GIMP 2.2. There is no pixel option for
feathering, and the Select-Feather option was greyed out for some
reason even after I had my selection.

Any ideas how to get this gradient selection I can use to give the
miniature effect?

Cheers
Jon

Instead of Photoshop Lens Blur I use:

1) Filter - Blur - Motion Blur : Zoom
2) Filter - Blur - Gaussian Blur

Do just as it said. Reflected gradient type translates to bilinear.

Heh, scale kit makers trying to avoid the scale look and people
converting photos to it.

That tutorial is rather direct to GIMP. Quick mask, blend (gradient)
tool, hue/saturation, all already there, only thing you have to get is
the lens defocus filter or use gaussian blur as poor substitute.
