Re: [Gimp-user] Gradient tool : how to modify the gradient ?

2016-12-21 Thread Richard
Then somebody's missing something, and I don't believe it's me...

On the Gradient Editor there are buttons to save the current settings, or zoom
the gradient display shown in the box. It does not include a command to
duplicate the gradient.

On your Gradients palette, there should be a row of five icons at the bottom --
Edit, New, Duplicate, Delete, and Refresh. Likewise, right-clicking on a
specific gradient (or checking the arrow menu at the upper-right) should reveal
a context menu of similar options.

Lastly, if you go to Edit > Preferences and look at the Folders section, you
should have one or two entries for the Gradients folder (typically under your
user path and program path) and at least one of them should be flagged as
"writable".

No can do either way.

right click on the gradient you want to copy

select "duplicate gradient"

an editable copy of that gradient will open.

Looks like a Microsoft registry problem to me. You might try searching
for GIMP in the registry editor and deleting all entries, or use an
automatic registry cleaner that will do the same for all "orphaned"
registry entries for programs that are no longer installed.

The Wise registry cleaner has a very good track record, backs up
everything before changing anything. It will probably also speed up all
operations on the machine - progressive registry corruption makes a
computer appear to be "wearing out."

Check if you have C:\Program Files\GIMP 2 directory, and if it's there,
delete it. If that still doesn't help, please run the installer with
/log=c:\gimp.txt parameter, then post the log contents here.

[Gimp-user] Unable to install GIMP.

2016-12-21 Thread mutedmeanings
A few weeks ago I uninstalled GIMP because it crashed every few minutes and I
didn't use it much anyways. I went to install it again about a week ago and it
gave me an error. This error (which can be seen in the attachment) stated I
already had GIMP installed and that I should either uninstall it or try to
install this version in a new folder. There were no folders related to GIMP in
the slightest anywhere in that folder, or on my computer for that matter.

I then tried to go back and choose a different location to install it to, but
every folder I tried caused the same error message. I've deleted/uninstalled
every possible thing related to GIMP on my computer, but I still get this error
message. I don't know what's causing this. If anyone could help, it would be
much appreciated.

Re: [Gimp-user] Bug in "arrow" plugin, possible bug with tear-off menus

2016-12-21 Thread mark_at_yahoo via gimp-user-list

On 12/21/2016 06:58 AM, programmer_ceds wrote:

Thanks for the update. There would appear to be something odd with Paths in
V2.8.16 at least. The documentation says that the "eye" icon (to the left of the
"chain" icon and the preview) in the Paths dialog should show an open eye if the
path is visible - for me this icon is blank after I have defined a path.
Clicking on this icon after using the arrow script causes the path to reappear
on the image but in orange/red rather than the normal white - perhaps someone
could try this using V2.9 - if it still behaves the same way (the path isn't
shown after the Undo of the arrow script) then it would be worth filing a bug
report. If the path is shown in V2.9 then I would suggest ignoring the problem.
Re-running the arrow script after the Undo still uses the path even though it
isn't visible so for me it isn't a big issue.

Yes, definitely a minor bug in the Paths dialog -- has nothing to do
with the arrow.scm script:

1) The eye icons aren't on by default. Probably an intentional feature
(don't want lots of paths cluttering the image).
2) The selected path is shown in red and all others in blue for paths
whose eye icon is turned on. This is regardless of whether the paths
tool is active.
3) The bug: If the paths tool has been activated after using a different
tool, the selected path in the paths dialog is not editable/stroke-able
(nor displayed unless its eye icon is on) until a new path is created,
either by clicking a first point in the image, or using "right-click ->
New Path..." in the paths dialog. After that, all paths behave correctly
(display/edit/stroke) until the paths tool is exited.

*** UPDATE ***
Just now found it: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=708124
"Paths should be visible by default", originally from 2013 but see
comments #13 through #17 from October of this year. Instead of creating
a new path when re-entering the paths tool you can double-click on any
path's "mini-preview" in the paths dialog -- it becomes
displayed/editable/stroke-able and then selecting paths in the dialog
works as it should. I agree with comment #16:

"So yes that feature is completely non-discoverable, and this is why I
think it is not good user experience. For most people, the only way
possible to edit an existing path seems to be to create a new one (even
if you don't need it) first, which is absurd. Double-click is the way
out of it, but nobody knows about it."

So this explains why "undo" after using arrow.scm with "Delete path
after arrow was drawn?" turned on doesn't show the path, and the very
non-intuitive workflow to get around it.

[Gimp-user] Gimp Crashes 2.8.x crashes on Copy and Paste randomly every few minutes (RAM not faulty, already tested)

2016-12-21 Thread thebunnyrules
Hello everyone,

Big fan of this project! Anyway, I'm on GIMP 2.8 and I'm using it with XFCE in
Arch linux x64 with multi lib support.

I have z170 mobo with 6700k, nVidia GTX 1080 with 32GB RAM. Using proprietary
GPU driver. I've tested the RAM with both the vanilla Windows RAM testing
utility as well as memtest x86 and memtest x86+. Passed all of the above.

I have this GIMP bug that I've not seen on any of my other linux builds: copy
and paste works properly about 19/20 times and wil cause a crash randomly every
10 to 20 minutes.

Any advice on how I should go about troubleshooting this bug, log files I should
put up here or perhaps read through? What I should look for in log files?
