Heavy handed: use the threshold tool (you can perhaps use selections to
apply different thresholds to different parts of the image)

Maybe cleaner: Brightness/Contrast tool, and increase bot contrast and
brightness. Again possibly over several selections.

Otherwise post an extract of the image.

Aha!

I see a black text layer, and under that, the same text layer in white
(light gray actually), and under that, a thin but normal "shadow" layer
made as described in my previous post, with the lower two layers offset
to produce the effect.

See attached: A low resolution approximation of the same drop shadow
effect. If you have the original font, this example and my post re
making drop shadows by hand should be all you need to get as close to
"exact" as you need.

As this is a "logo" I suggest making a large high resolution "master"
that can be used in lots of applications (after scaling and tweaking).
Ideally it might be duplicated in Inkscape or another vector edior;
then, it could be scaled to any size and exported in any common image
format as required, quickly and easily.

Re: [Gimp-user] Question About Recreating a Drop Shadow

2017-05-12 Thread Rick Strong
Hi Amber,

Your logo looks like it has three layers:
- Text Black, sharp.
- Shadow 1 light light grey, blurred
- Shadow 2 dark grey on the bottom, blurred more.

I attach a GIMP file with layers. Adjust everything to suit your purposes.

Cheers,

Hey Rick!

Sorry for the confusion! I guess I was a bit vague in my initial inquiry. I was
just hoping there was a way to find one drop shadow’s settings to apply them to
another drop shadow that I was unaware of. It's the drop shadow on 'The
Musician' - I need to change that title to 'The Artist,' but unlike Photoshop,
it doesn't just adjust the drop shadow when you edit text since the drop shadow
is a layer in itself. If you have any idea how I can recreate this drop shadow,
I would GREATLY appreciate your help!

Thanks!

Which drop shadow are you referring to? There isn't one on your corporate page.

Subject: [Gimp-user] Question About Recreating a Drop Shadow

Hello!

I'm new to using GIMP and am trying to edit the work of the person in my
position previous to me. She used a drop shadow on the title of the page "The
Musician," but the title is being changed to "The Artist." This isn't your
normal drop shadow, so I'm not sure how she created it! My question is - is
there a way to recreate a drop shadow using existing settings? And where can I
find the settings for the initial drop shadow to duplicate it on "The Artist"?
In Photoshop, this wouldn't be an issue for me at all, but this particular
document was created using GIMP, which I'm not very familiar with, so I would
appreciate any suggestions or assistance!

Thanks so much!

[Gimp-user] glib-networking required on Windows

2017-05-12 Thread programmer_ceds
I have recently started building GIMP on Windows as per the GIMP Windows hacking
page (with success until now) but have now fallen foul of the requirement for
glib-networking.

I have entered the following command in MSYS2:

pacman -S mingw32/mingw-w64-i686-glib-networking

The install seemed to be successful but the GIMP autogen fails, saying that
glib-networking is missing.

Can somebody tell me what else I need to do please?

That is not the way it works.

The brush designer does what it says, designs a parametric (.vbr) brush, which
is a bit like a vector, the brush is a text file description of properties.

Each brush has a 'natural' size, which you can reset in Gimp 2.8.22 using the
little yellow arrow in the Brush tool options. see: small-brush

Exactly the same brush can use the size slider to resize to the new size ( 2x
the radius) so for a 725 radius use 1450. see: large-brush

You could save both of your brushes radius = 55 and radius = 725 as separate
.vbr files and use the little yellow arrow to set the size, but it is a bit
pointless when one will do.

No.

Points to remember. Whether you uninstall Gimp before installing a new version
or not, your Gimp profile C:\Users\.gimp-2.8 remains. Sometimes, very
infrequently, existing settings can conflict with the new version. In that case,
disable the existing Gimp profile by re-naming it, and start Gimp to create a
new default Gimp profile.

[Gimp-user] Tablet issues

2017-05-12 Thread -Kurenai-
Hi, I recently got a tablet (1060PLUS Huion) and I tried to use it on GIMP. I
enabled it in input devices and followed a couple of tutorials on YouTube on how
to enable pressure sensitivity and such but some things are off. For one, I'm
unable to draw lines in GIMP when I stroke my pen across the tablet. There is
also no pressure sensitivity whatsoever. I've tried everything I could think of,
but the problems remain.

-Windows 10 Pro

-1060PLUS Huion

-GIMP 2

-Yes, I've tried restarting my PC, and I always plug in my tablet before opening
GIMP.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Anyway, you did not read far enough

Nice one, but you have to remember the UNIX/now linux origins of GIMP where a
package - GIMP - will install specified dependencies which could include the
HELP packages.

Not the case with Windows. To include HELP with all the languages, the Gimp
Windows installer would be, I don't know, maybe 100 MB larger. Not worth it.

What you do get is a built-in help browser plugin that can access the HELP
files when installed.

Hi,

we are releasing GIMP 2.8.22 with various bug fixes.

All platforms will benefit from a change to the image window hierarchy
in single window mode, which improves painting performance when certain
GTK+ themes are used.

This version fixes an ancient CVE bug, CVE-2007-3126. Due to this bug,
the ICO file import plug-in could be crashed by specially crafted image
files. Our attempts to reproduce the bug failed with 2.8 and thus the
impact had likely been minimal for years, but now it is gone for good.

Users on the Apple macOS platforms will benefit from fixes for crashes
during drag and copy operations. On the Microsoft Windows
platforms, crashes encountered when using the color picker with special
multi-screen setups are gone, and picking the actual color instead of
black from anywhere on the screen should finally be possible.
