Re: [Gimp-user] Cleaning scanned magazine pages
In addition to what you suggest, you might also try putting a sheet of black paper under the magazine page you are scanning (between the pages). The scanner may give you a better starting image. This has worked for me countless times over the years. It's about cleaning scanned magazine pages where the print on the back side shines through the thin paper making the reading less enjoyable. Recipe: With GIMP: Open a file. Convert your document to grayscale: Image - Mode - Grayscale. Select the background color: Select - By Color, click with mouse pointer on the color of the background. Invert the selected color: Select - Invert. Copy the selection: Edit - Copy. Create a new file: File - New. In the dialog of a new file, in field: Advanced Options choose: Fill with: White, hit Ok. Click anywhere in the window of the new opened document, just to choose it. Paste the content of a clipboard: Edit - Paste. Add a new layer to enhance the black text: Layer - New from Visible, in the layer's palette, in field: Mode: choose Multiply. Combine two layers: Layer - Merge Down. Save the result as a JPEG file: File - Export As, choose jpeg and set the quality at least 60. I have a couple of questions. A. When getting to "Combine two layers: Layer - Merge Down." the Merge Down option is grayed out so I can't apply that step. What could be the reason? And why does it say "Combine two layers" when there is three? 1.Floated selection (Pasted Layer) 2.Visible 3.Background B. When selecting a background color to be erased/turned to white what would be the best way to pick a wider range of grayness than the rather sparse instruction the recipe suggests "By Color, click with mouse pointer on the color of the background." -- MrNiceButDim (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
Re: [Gimp-user] Wacom and GIMP
We ... kind of need a lot more information about exactly what you were doing and *how* before we can figure out what exactly was happening here. So let's start by covering some bases: 1 - What tool were you using and what were its settings? Nominally it should be "Normal" blending mode and some Dynamics preset other than "Dynamics Off" (as that would dismiss the entire problem as just user error) 2 - Did GIMP actually detect the tablet upon startup? (very well-known bug) The fastest way to check is to alternate between the pen and eraser tips -- GIMP should swap to a different tool depending on which end is in range. Otherwise, go to the Edit menu and check "Extended Input Devices", which should show the Wacom tablet in its list. If it doesn't, then GIMP failed to notice the tablet at all, and is only just reading it like the mouse pointer (meaning no pressure sensitivity or tilt control, though other Dynamics options may still work) and you should restart GIMP before continuing. -- Stratadrake strata_ran...@hotmail.com Numbers may not lie, but neither do they tell the whole truth. I recommend removing those. Get resynthesizer from here: http://www.mediafire.com/file/gwc928wmwti30g3/resynth_win_32_64.zip (no longer pay for this account so put up with some adverts) Unzip and put the two files from the 64 bit folder 'resynthesizer' and 'resynthesizer-gui' in the Gimp profile C:\Users\your-name\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.9\plug-ins Add any of the python plugins that you need, typically heal-selection: screenshot 1 Still in the usual place Filters -> Map -> Resynthesizer: screenshot 2 Many of these plugins have never been updated (even for Gimp 2.8.x) and even when the plugin works there are deprecated procedure warnings. Heal selection still in the usual place Filters -> Enhance -> Heal Selection: screenshot 3 The way to suppress the pop-ups is use the command line switch --pdb-compat-mode=on Add it to the shortcut screenshot 4 rich: www,gimp-forum.net Attachments: * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/661/original/01.jpg * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/662/original/02.jpg * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/663/original/03.jpg * http://www.gimpusers.com/system/attachments/664/original/04.jpg -- rich2005 (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
[Gimp-user] Windows 10 Gimp 2.9.6 Resynthesizer V1.0
Anybody get Resynthesizer V1.0 working with Gimp 2.9.6 under Windows 10? I installed the 10 files as per instructions in the plug-ins directory. When I run Gimp I get a couple of error messages. 1) Resynthesizer.exe - system error. The code execution cannot proceed because intl.dll was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem. 2) Resynthesizer-gui.exe - Application error. The application was unable to start correctly (0xc076). Click ok to close the application. Is this because intl.dll is not distributed with 2.9.6? Can I find this file somewhere in 2.8.22 can just copy it into 2.9.6 to get Resynthesizer to work? -- OldSchool (via www.gimpusers.com/forums) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list
