For GIMP operators running the very latest version of babl/GEGL/GIMP
built from sources in git, there is also an operation available from
under Tool/Gegl Operation menu called shadow-highlights, implemented
for GNOME Photos based on the shadow-highlights in Darktable which
itself was inspired by script-fu scripts. This will give live
on-canvas previews as parameters are tuned.

Re: [Gimp-user] Gimp failing to load custom anything

2018-01-03 Thread Sam Gleske
Have you reviewed your "Folders" configuration in GIMP preferences? Your
files may not be in the folders GIMP is expecting. You could also
customize where GIMP looks for those additional customizations in the
folders section.

Other problems I've encountered include:
* Trying to paint on the wrong layer (sometimes even when the layer is not
visible).
* Trying to paint when quick mask is selected.
* Trying to paint on a layer when a channel has been selected.

2018-01-03 Thread Klaus Gölker
Hello,

Besides the plug-in the GIMP tool you are looking for is Curves in the menu
Colors. It´s the same as Curves (Gradation Curves) in Photoshop and it is
the most powerful tool to lighten shadows and regain highlights in GIMP.

That is very odd -- works from Madison WI, using ATT Uverse,

Maybe shouldn't do this, but it's attached to this reply.

Gimp does not possess magical powers to change its own settings, only when they
are reset by a resart perhaps.

Common reasons for the brush not painting.

1. There is selection active (could be as small as a pixel) and you are tying to
paint outside it.

2. The active layer is small and you are trying to paint outside it.

3. Trying to paint on transparency with the alpha-lock on.

Are you sure the user name in the error messages coincide with blanked-out name
for your Gimp profile?

Have changed/upgraded/reinstalled your computer / version of Gimp recently?

I can find a copy of those preset folders, vaguely remember them from years ago.
I think pre-Gimp 2.8 and they sort of work - I do not have the bespoke brushes
to go with them.

bottom line - more information please.

[Gimp-user] I can't paint a white star.............

2018-01-03 Thread Maisie
I've got my brush. A star. Can I figure out how to paint it white? Nope. I've
spent around an hour scouring documents, videos, and banging my head against the
wall.

The opacity is 100%. The foreground is white. I've tried dynamics off, dynamics
simple dynamics here there and everywhere and still can't get a white star. What
am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

randomly as I was working on some illustrations on GIMP 2.8.22, I noticed my

I have tried uninstalling, including getting rid of all the folders, and once I
put my custom palettes and presets back in the folder I get failed to load data

folder management to pull from that folder and I still get the same error. I've
never faced this before and it is very aggravating. Any help would be greatly
