GIMP should remember the last folder you saved the preset to, and list it when you next save or open. If it doesn’t you could add a quick link in the “Places” window of you file chooser. As you screen shot, left hand window, open a file chooser window, explore to the location and drag it to the bottom left hand window under “Metals” and that folder will always be there each time you open or save a preset. If you have really old kit you could also run https://lubuntu.me a flavor of Ubuntu designed for low spec kit. If you need to still run windows programs you could also use VirtualBox ( https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads) and run XP in that environment. I run Ubuntu & Lubuntu they are great on old and new kit. [Gimp-user] GIMP 2.8.0 WIN32 - Very Slow
Just installed GIMP 2.8.0 win32, it seems very slow when editing images, for example if I use the spray brush the cursor moves but the tool 'circle' does not move or lags behind. The change in the image also lags behind the cursor. My system: Dell Vostro 1520, Intel 2 Duo CPU p8700 2.53GHz 4gb 32bit (Vista). Had been using 2.7.(not sure if it was .4) no problems.
