A nasty PS thing for jpegs? No good trying to apply PS concepts to Gimp. In my experience I would either cut the circle or delete a short section of the circle, then link the end points of the "bump-out" to the new end points fo the circular path. Alternatively I could have the "bump-out" overlap the circle, and merge the two. I can find no "delete path section", "cut path section", or "merge paths" language (or anything similar) anywhere in the GIMP manual. How would I go about accomplishing this? Additional to the previous: To add a mask in Gimp Layer -> Mask -> Add Layer Mask see: https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-layer-mask-add.html A few ways but say, using Black (full transparency) then Path-to-selection, fill the selection with white. Saving as a Gimp .xcf keeps masks, paths, active selections. For an export, png keeps transparency, You can try exporting as a psd, but as-far-as-I-know while you get transparency & a layer mask, that is all.
