Also, the git-scm.com website is maintained by other people, not the Git project itself. I looked into this and they seem to be deliberately holding off onto a release due to some max path issues on Windows: https://github.com/msysgit/git/pull/122 Also there are some unofficial builds for 1.8.5.4 I think, you just have to Google for it.
