Things are fine when I use Git Bash. I guess I'll stick with that. I
probably selected option B (Run Git from the Windows Command Prompt).

You could also try downgrading to 1.7.10, just to see if that makes a
difference.
By the way, I'm curious what you selection you made in the install-wizard
when asked about Adjusting your PATH environment. Can you remember? It
was either:
a) Use Git Bash only
b) Run Git from the Windows Command Prompt, or
c) Run GIt and included Unix tools from the Windows Command Prompt
I see that you've asked on the msysGit list as well, hopefully there'll be
someone there with a better clue.
