In the report of 3531 with the title `Geany doesn't get focus` there is this text: `[...] from the FileManager GUI if i click on a .txt file then Geany doesn't get focus, [...]`. To change the size of the scrollbar in the editor, one can add for example this code in the document geany.css that is located in .geany: ``` /* size of the scrollbar */ scrollbar slider { min-width: 10px; border-right: 10px solid transparent; } ``` But the code has no influence on the scrollbar of the sidebar. In that article there is a section called "Built-in shortcuts". So, my idea is to add at the end of the article a new section called "Keyboard specific shortcuts". The text could be like this: "Some keyboards allow further shortcuts to insert one single character." Then I would add a table with the two shortcuts that are executed with the Alt Gr key. The shortcut "Ctrl-Shift-U, Unicode, Enter" will stay in the "Built-in shortcuts" section. [Github-comments] [geany/geany] Is there a shortcut to insert a dash? (Discussion #3887)
When typing text in Geany, I use often a dash. Till now I use LibreOffice for this by creating a dash to copy and paste it in Geany. So, I asked myself if there is not a faster way. In LibreOffice, if I type this: `hello --world !` the text will be automatically transformed to this: `hello –world !` So, the two hyphens will be transformed to a dash. This is the way how I produce a dash in LibreOffice. Is there a shortcut to insert a dash in Geany? In a famous search engine I searched for this: geany dash shortcut. But I couldn't find something useful to solve the question. **Steps to reproduce** open Geany press Shift+F10 **Result** The tab-switcher appears with some entries that ar not tab-titles. The entries are: ``` Open in New Window Close Close Other Documents Close Documents to the Right Close All ``` **Expectation** Only tab-titles should appear in the tab-switcher. **Remark I** The items disturb specially for small screens when using a lot of tabs, because one need to scroll through the tab-switcher to find the right tab-title. I can remember that in the editor Notepad++ there were only tab-titles in the tab-switcher and that was fine. Till today I never used the items of the tab-switcher. If you don't want to remove the items of the tab-switcher, then it would be good to offer the items as option in the Preferences. Maybe the items should be deactivated by default. **Remark II** Maybe it would be good to offer two different tab-switchers. One tab-switcher with the items appears directly next to the mouse when you right-click on a tab-title. The second tab-switcher without items would appear when pressing the shortcut Shift+F10, and would appear always centered (horizontally and vertically) in the content area (like once in the editor Notepad++), because it is the best position. **System** Lubuntu 23.10 Geany 1.38 -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/3806 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. **Conditions** - except `File Browser` all other plugins are deactivated - sidebar is on the left side - in the sidebar are three tabs (from left to the right): `Symbols`, `Documents` and `Files` - in the editor are two documents **Steps to reproduce the issue** 1. click in the editor on the second tab-title, so the second tab is in focus 2. click in the sidebar on the tab-title `Documents` 3. close Geany 4. open Geany (result: the second tab of the editor should be in focus while in the sidebar the tab `Documents` is active) 5. click on the tab-title `Files` 6. tab-browse with the keyboard three times to the left side **Result** the first tab of the editor is in focus **Expectation** the tab `Files` of the sidebar should be in focus **System** Lubuntu 23.10 Geany 1.38 **Remark** This does not only happen with the plugin `File Browser` but also with the plugin `Preview`, because in both plugins a new tab is created in the sidebar, in the plugin `File Browser` it is the Files-tab while in the plugin `Preview` it is the Preview-tab. This issue is based on the knowledge of https://github.com/xiota/geany-preview/issues/11. **System** Lubuntu 23.10 Geany 1.38 -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany-plugins/issues/1318 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. Last year in May I asked this question: Is there a possibility to change the CSS of the tab-title of a tab that is active? It is the discussion #3482. Today I recognized that if the sidebar is visible, then two tabs have the same CSS, because two tabs are active. So, I'm looking for a selector name where I can define the CSS for the tab that is in focus. It is not `notebook tab:focus label`. For the sake of completeness I add some information to this issue. At the moment these are the best settings for me: ``` notebook tab:checked label { font-weight: bold; border-bottom: 5px solid black; } notebook tab { padding-top:27px; padding-bottom:10px; } ``` In my last comment, I wrote that "tabs are a little bit moving" while tab-browsing. I recognized that the editor Kate and the editor Geany have the same behavior. It seems to be that developers of big software don't like a freezing behavior because it is a break in the flow, and the flow seems to be holy. I think a good comprise would be to offer two Line Wrapping: - Line Wrapping without freezing the display - Line Wrapping with freezing the display But I can imagine that it will not be realized because the effort is enormous while the use is low. Nevertheless at Scintilla I could write this: Add the possibility to switch between 'Line Wrapping without freezing the display' and 'Line Wrapping with freezing the display'. Sorry, for my words, I typed 'WFM what means' in a search engine, and the answer was to that time 'workforce management'. So, there was a misunderstanding. I copied pasted from the document filetypes.common, that is located in .config/geany/filedefs in gedit.conf those lines: brace_good=0xff;0xFF;true;false brace_bad=0xff;0xFF;true;false The problem is then, that if my zoom is set to 0, then I can see highlighted curved brackets, highlighted box brackets and highlighted curly brackets (but not highlighted angle brackets). So, for me it is better when the two brace-lines are removed. I use Geany 1.38 in Lubuntu 23.10 with no Wayland. The Font name is Liberation Mono, the Style is Normal and the Point size is 28. -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/3555#issuecomment-1961026674 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. I erased the two brace-lines from gedit.conf. Then I saved the document. I restarted Geany. When the zoom is 0%, then indeed I can't see brace highlighting. But in some zoom sizes (for example three times less than the maximum zoom) I can definitively see sometimes a change of the closing curly brackets and also the closing box brackets when moving with the arrow-keys. With other brackets, like for example round brackets or or angle brackets or the opening curly bracket, I don't see a change when changing the zoom size. [Github-comments] [geany/geany] When a focused tab has a bold tab-title, then other tabs are a little bit moving while tab-browsing (Issue #3771)
Steps to reproduce the issue make the tab-title of a focused tab bold (see below in "Remark I" how this works) open many tabs tab-browse to the left or to the right Result Other tabs that are not in focus are moving a little bit to the side Expectation Other tabs should not move at all Remark I If geany.css does not exist in .config/geany, type this code in the terminal: cp /usr/share/geany/geany.css .config/geany/ Open geany.css that is located in .config/geany/ Add at the end of the document those lines: ``` notebook tab:checked label { font-weight:bold; } ``` Save the document, close Geany, open Geany Remark II I use an ePaper-display in that way that only the black color is on the screen. So, after an installation of Geany, when many tabs are open, I can't see at all which tab is in focus and which tab was changed, but not saved. I add in geany.css in `geany-document-status-changed` the following code to see which tab was changed but not saved: `font-style:oblique;` And I delete there the color. And this is what I use in geany.css for the tab that is in focus: ``` notebook tab:checked label { color:white; background:black; } ``` I would prefer to use bold, but then some tabs are a little bit moving while tab-browsing. Nowadays I use Geany like this: There are the tabs on top of the window and nothing else. So, I use Geany without window-bar, without menu-bar, without status bar, without line numbers, without message window, without long line marker, and without toolbar. Because nowadays the toolbar is disabled in my Geany, I don't need any more some symbols in the toolbar. And that is the reason why I close this issue that I opened nearly three years ago. I recognized that if I use bold, then the tabs are a little bit moving when I tab-browse in a loop. That is the reason why I decided to use this: ``` notebook tab:checked label { color:white; background:black; } ``` Your answer is so helpful for me. >... even if you can't control the text colour by state, ... I didn't want to change the color. My idea was to make it bold because if I use the eInk-display in text-mode there is only black and white. Is there a possibility to make it bold? In CSS it is 'font-weight:bold'. But which kind of value in geany.css? >..., a flashing purple and orange striped background should make the tab >visible ;-) Unfortunately this is not possible, because if I use the eInk-display in text-mode there is only black and white. So if I would use an orange as background, it will be displayed as black, what means that I would not see the name of the tab-title, because the tab-title is in black. A background color would make sense if I could change also the font-color of the tab-title in white. -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/discussions/3482#discussioncomment-5786618 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. [Github-comments] [geany/geany] Is there a possibility to change the CSS of the tab-title of a tab that is active? (Discussion #3482)
On an eInk-display In Lubuntu 23.04 I can't see at all which tab is in focus because of the Widget Style Qt Style Cleanlooks, that does not work like in Lubuntu 22.10. I know that I can change in geany.css the CSS of a tab-title when a document was changed but not yet saved. So, is there a possibility to do the same in geany.css but with a tab-title of a tab that is active? Thank you so much in advance for help. -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/discussions/3482 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. OK, so does that mean that if both plugins are activated in the `Plugin Manager` and stay activated in the `Plugin Manager`, that a plugin can have access to the functions of the other plugin? -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/discussions/3431#discussioncomment-5357564 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. If yes, how? In concrete: In the plugin Preview there is a function that is needed in the plugin Lua Script. [Github-comments] Re: [geany/geany] changing cursor blinking rate or make it invisible (Issue #3410)
If I set in `/.config/geany/filedefs/filetypes.common` `caret_width=0`, then the caret is invisible. But how can I turn off the blinking effect of the caret, so I just see a not-blinking black caret? On this webpage (https://www.geany.org/manual/gtk/gtk/GtkSettings.html#GtkSettings--gtk-cursor-blink) there is this text: Whether the cursor should blink. [Github-comments] Re: [geany/geany] Highlighted line is not in the visible area when toggling sidebar 2x (Issue #3399)
To the solution (to avoid misunderstanding): 1: The most important thing is that the cursor should always be in the visible area right after toggling. 2: A special case is when the cursor was not moved during toggling (then the cursor should have exactly the same position like it was before toggling 2x). -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/3399#issuecomment-1431510437 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. My expectation is (even I don't understand what is going on when toggling, and even if I don't know how the issue could be solved): The highlighted line and specially the blinking cursor should be in the visible area. The best would be that, if there is no change in the text and if there is no move of the cursor during the toggling process, then the blinking cursor should be exactly at the same place like it was before toggling. -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/3399#issuecomment-1430539054 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. [Github-comments] [geany/geany] Highlighted line is not in the visible area when toggling sidebar 2x (Issue #3399)
Steps to reproduce 1: open a very long HTML-document, so one need to scroll 2: make the sidebar visible 3: make the width of the editor very small (for example just some centimeters), so that the sidebar has a big width 4: put the cursor at the end of the second last line 5: press 2x the shortcut "Toggle Sidebar" Result The highlighted line is not in the visible area any more. To make it visible one need to scroll or to press the arrow keys on the keyboard. Expectation The highlighted line and specially the blinking cursor should be exactly at the same visible position where it was just before toggling the sidebar. Context I use the plugin Geany Preview (it is a fantastic tool for the creation of webpages - the result is shown live in the sidebar) and I wanted to use the shortcut "Toggle Sidebar" many times a day, so it disturbs every time that the highlighted line is not right away in the visible area as it was before toggling. Remark On an other computer I installed Geany. When I don't change the size of the width of the sidebar after the installation, then everything works perfect. So it seems to be that the issue has to do something with changing size of the width of the sidebar. System Lubuntu 22.04.1 and Lubuntu 22.10 Geany 1.38 and Geany 1.39 -- Reply to this email directly or view it on GitHub: https://github.com/geany/geany/issues/3399 You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread.
