Is this an archive problem like gnash's issues, or does this persist?

This was due to the repository being momentarily messed up; it should
work now. It's not a gnash bug.

Gnash installs OK on i386 after apt-get -f install but fails when run:
/usr/bin/gtk-gnash: error while loading shared libraries:
libgnashnet.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory.

ldd /usr/bin/gtk-gnash|grep not returns:
libgnashnet.so.0 => not found
libgnashsound-trunk-20090313.so => not found
libgnashnet.so.0 => not found
libgnashsound-trunk-20090313.so => not found

There's been recent discussion on the gnash-dev mailing list regarding
this starting at
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnash-dev/2009-12/msg00050.html

http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnash-dev/2009-12/msg00056.html
suggests this is a bug in the building of the deb packages which was
fixed a few days ago in gnash trunk.

Cheers,

I tried installing the Gnash updates from the repo today, but it failed.

That's on the Yeeloong, by the way.

On i386 it also doesn't install, but with a different error:

Unpacking replacement gnash ...
dpkg: error processing
/var/cache/apt/archives/gnash_trunk20090313_i386.deb (--unpack):

[Gnewsense-dev] Emacs 23

2009-12-24 Thread Sam Geeraerts
Emacs 23 is in the updates for metad, but it can't be installed on the
Yeeloong and printed a warning on i386.

Aptitude on Yeeloong:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  emacs: Depends: emacs23 which is a virtual package, or
  emacs23-lucid which is a virtual package, or
  emacs23-nox which is a virtual package.

Aptitude on i386:
In debian-run-directories:
debian-startup.el:130:25:Warning: `mapcar' called for effect; use `mapc'
or `dolist' instead

[Gnewsense-dev] FN-leftarrow

2009-12-24 Thread Richard Stallman
When I type FN-rightarrow, which reduces the audio volume,
it not only displays an annoying message on the console.
It also generates a character, . Magic FN-combinations
should not generate terminal input.

[Gnewsense-dev] Useless and confusing terminal messages

2009-12-24 Thread Richard Stallman
When I type FN-downarrow, which reduces the screen brightness,
it displays a message on the console.

That is a pain in the neck. Merely typing a key should display any
such message.

[Gnewsense-dev] Grub on the Yeeloong: summary

2009-12-24 Thread samy boutayeb
Hi,
I tested the latest grub (0.97, according to the grub splash screen. The
installed version is 1.98~20091212-2) with the latest kernels available.

First, I installed the package grub-yeeloong.

Later, after installing a new GNU/Linux image, I had to run:

dpkg-reconfigure grub-yeeloong

Then, I rebooted the system and typed at the "PMON>" prompt:

boot (wd0,0)/boot/grub.elf

The result is as following:
A/ Working (booting complete and fully functional system)
gNewsense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.27.1
B/ Non working (kernel panic or frozen screen, e.g. just after the tux
or Linux-libre icon):
gNewsense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32.2-libre-lemote
gNewsense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32.1-libre-lemote
gNewsense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-libre-lemote
gNewsense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.32-libre
gNewsense GNU/Linux, with Linux 2.6.31.6-libre1
