[GNHLUG] NHRuby.org Meeting on Tuesday, Oct 16: Rails Deployments More
This month's NHRuby.org meeting topic will be on deploying Ruby on Rails applications. While back in May our meeting focus was on using Capistrano as our primary deployment tool, this month Scott Garman will be demonstrating a simpler application to manage Rails deployments, called Vlad the Deployer: http://www.rubyhitsquad.com/Vlad_the_Deployer.html Vlad the Deployer targets the 80% use case of deployments and boasts an engine written in less than 500 lines of code. Is simpler always better? Drop by our meeting and find out! Scott will also be discussing various Rails-related tidbits he's been working with recently. Anyone who attends the meeting will be offered special coupon codes from Linode if they're interested. The coupons give you two months of free service after purchasing one month of their Virtual Private Server (VPS) hosting. Linode sponsored the recent Rails Rumble and Nick Plante had many good things to say about them. WHEN: Tuesday, October 16, 2007. 7-9 PM. WHERE: RMC Research Offices, 1000 Market Street, Portsmouth, NH. For a map and driving directions, see our wiki site: http://wiki.nhruby.org/index.php/Upcoming_meetings Regards, Scott -- Scott Garman sgarman at zenlinux dot com ___ gnhlug-announce mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-announce/ ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss/

Re: [GNHLUG] NHRuby.org Meeting on Tuesday, Oct 16: Rails Deployments More
Hi Scott, I thought this might interest you and the other NHRuby folks. I don't know if you're a SitePoint books subscriber or not. I am for some reason. I get their spam fairly frequently, and just this week was informed by said spam that they have released Patrick Lenz's book Build Your Own Ruby on Rails Web Applications in pdf form, *free* for download for 60 days. And, like a good doobie, I captured the actual URL so you don't have to go through all the hassle of registering :) http://media.sitepoint.com/books/ror.pdf And, just to be completely up-front and open, here's verification that this book is, in fact, free: http://www.sitepoint.com/books/rails1/freebook.php I intentionally didn't send this to the whole GNHLUG list because I don't want to abuse this offer. Many people see free book and will download it with no real intention of either reading it or looking at what SitePoint has to offer, and I don't think that's fair to SitePoint. Since this is a Rails book, the probability is slightly higher of Ruby folks downloading it and reading it, and then frequenting SitePoint. -- Seeya, Paul ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss/

I seem to remember seeing something like this back in the days of X10 (the predecessor to X11). A little white box with crosshairs in the lower right of the screen. It screwed up my display whenever I clicked on it. Back then I didn't know about window managers, let alone workspaces - I just knew about point and click. I think they used the term panel (in what passed as documentation in those days). ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss/

During a bout of insomnia I caught this broadcast live on the BBC last night and liked it a lot: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/global_business.shtml I've always regarded the presenter, Peter Day, as generally cool and the subject matter is likely to be of interest to most people on this channel... ___ gnhlug-discuss mailing list gnhlug-discuss@mail.gnhlug.org http://mail.gnhlug.org/mailman/listinfo/gnhlug-discuss/
