Re: Touchscreen interaction

I think that for the best example of touch screen interaction, Android probably
is the best bet. All the API's that matter are open source, and although not all
versions of the Talkback screen reader have their source code released, full
source code is in fact available for new enough versions to get an idea of how
the interactions work. That said, though Android does contain a Linux kernel, it
is not at all a Linux distribution, so much of the fundamentals will be
different, just like looking at any other OS for inspiration. I only mention
Android here because the source code is mostly open and fairly well documented.

Unfortunately, NVDA is not so good as android or even windows narrator
in this field.

I don't know what NVDA offers, but Android handles the touch screen quite well.
When you move your finger around the screen, the speech/braille tells you what
your finger has moved onto. To click, you double tap. To long click, you tap
then hold. There are many gestures. For example, a right/left swipe moves to
the next/previous item.

Yes, a "review" mode before activating the widget under the finger, like
in iOS, Android and Windows 8.1+.

Which kind of interaction do you have? AIUI the current support on
Linux is that it can trigger clicks, but do you mean that a different
mode of interaction would allow to check what widget you have before
clicking, for instance?

Touchscreen interaction

2019-03-22 Thread francisco del roio via gnome-accessibility-list
Hello,

I saw your posts about mouse/keyboard input, but what about touch
interfaces?

Currently I am using windows and I have a touch screen, with NVDA. It
has support for it and sometimes it is faster to interact with controls
using it in place of keyboard.

However, I didn't found any library for touchscreen interaction, and
orca will need a redesign from the ground to support it appropriately.

Are there any plans about these things?

Cheers,
