2009-09-21 Thread Daniel Elstner
mm-common 0.8 STFU! is now available for download at:

mm-common-0.8.tar.gz

Enjoy the silence.

* Support for Automake 1.11 silent rules has been implemented
in the shared Automake include files.

* The base path of the Devhelp file is now correctly translated
at installation time even with Automake 1.11.

* A number of output directories are now created automatically
at build time if needed, so that it is no longer necessary to
put dummy files into otherwise empty directories.

* The automatically generated ChangeLog file now omits merge
  commits.

* The skeleton source tree now includes an examples/ directory
  a skeletonmm.h single-include header file.

* The skeleton Doxygen configuration file has been corrected
  and updated for Doxygen 1.6.1.

* The doc-install.pl utility no longer splits glob patterns
with embedded whitespace into multiple patterns.

Notes:

* This is neither a stable release nor a development release,
but a base module for developing C++ bindings.

* There is no GNOME Bugzilla component for mm-common yet. For now,
bugs should be reported to the gtkmm-l...@gnome.org mailing list.

About mm-common
===

The mm-common module provides the build infrastructure and utilities
shared among the GNOME C++ binding libraries. It is only a required
dependency for building the C++ bindings from the gnome.org version
control repository. An installation of mm-common is not required for
building tarball releases, unless configured to use maintainer-mode.

Release archives of mm-common include the Doxygen tag file for the
GNU C++ Library reference documentation. It is covered by the same
license as the source code it was extracted from. More information
is available at http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/libstdc++/.

More information about the GNOME C++ bindings is available at:

Libgda 4.1.2 released

2009-09-21 Thread Vivien Malerba
I'm pleased to announce version 4.1.2 of Libgda, a development version
which will lead to a 4.2 release.

Short description:

Libgda is a (relatively small) database access library:
* a wrapper like ODBC but with more features to access several database engines
* a general data model to use CVS or XML files
* a meta data extractor (to know all about database objects in a comman way)
* features several tools: an SQL console application (like mysql, psql
or sqlite3 consoles), a graphical database browser, and a control
center
* relies on GLib, coded in C, its API is easy to use
* optionnally includes some graphical widgets (based on GTK+) for data
bound representations
  and some graphical tools

Changes from 4.1.1
--
 - the GdaBrowser application now supports query execution, and is more
   polished and stable
 - Lots of bug fixes mainly related to threads usage and the UI extension
 - Translations:
- de (Mario Blättermann)
- eu (Inaki Larranaga Murgoitio)
- pt_BR (Rodolfo Ribeiro Gomes)
- fr (Claude Paroz)

Notes:

 * This is unstable development release. While it has had
a bit of testing, there are certainly plenty of bugs
remaining to be found. This release should not be used
  in production.

 * Installing this version will overwrite your existing
copy of Libgda 4. If you have problems, you'll need to
  reinstall it.

 * Libgda 4.2 will be source and binary compatible with
  the 4.0 series.

 * Bugs should be reported to http://bugzilla.gnome.org.

See the http://live.gnome.org/ChooseLibgdaSQLite page for additionnal
information about choosing
between Libgda and SQLite when you need a database API.

GNOME Games 2.28.0

2009-09-21 Thread Jason D. Clinton
Versus 2.26.x, this release brings a Gnometris rewrite that depends on
Clutter
1.0 for the animation engine. The previous version of Gnometris was
unplayable.

GNOME Games now also defaults to depending on libcanberra-gtk for the sound
engine. When using PulseAudio, the games benefit from sound-daemon provided
effect mixing similar to the experience provided by the SDL back-end. When
not
using PulseAudio, if the underlying ALSA configuration supports it, dmix or
hardware mixing should provide adequate mixing for sound effects. The
gstreamer
back-end is now removed and the SDL back-end is deprecated.

For packages, the default build mode with automake 1.11 or higher is to now
suppress verbose compile information to make it easier to catch warnings.
Normal
automake verbosity flags will disable this suppression.

Finally, the experimental Clutter version of aisleriot is now available with
--enable-aisleriot-clutter. For distributions that are feeling adventurous,
we
are not aware of any regressions in the Clutter version. It should be safe
to
enable this feature if you feel that your 3D driver situation is adequate.

gedit 2.28.0 released

2009-09-21 Thread Jesse van den Kieboom

gedit 2.28.0 has been released

gedit is the official text editor of the GNOME desktop.

This is the first release of the new stable series that will be part of
GNOME 2.28.

This new version features many bugfixes and improvements.

For end users the most notable features are the new Quick Open plugin
(which allows you to quickly open files from many different locations
using partial completion) and improvements to the External Tools plugin
(such as per language tools and saving documents before running the tool).

Internally, gedit now always uses GIO for loading documents (which was done
using a special mmap loader for local documents before).

 What is mousetweaks ?
===

The mousetweaks package provides the functions offered by the
Accessibility tab of the Mouse control panel. It also contains
two panel applets related to the mouse accessibility. More
   particularly:

1. It offers a way to perform the various clicks without using any
hardware button. In this context, the Dwell Click panel applet
can be used to choose what click type to perform.

2. It allows users to perform a secondary click by doing a
clickhold of the primary mouse button.

3. It provides the Pointer Capture panel applet. This applet creates
an area on the panel into which the pointer can be captured until
the user releases it with a predefined button and modifier
   combination.

EOG Plugins 2.28.0

2009-09-21 Thread Felix Riemann
*sorry, for resending, but the subject line was broken before*

Hey!

Finally! Please welcome the first ever stable release of the Eye of
GNOME Plugins package. It adds six additional plugins to your beloved
image viewer.

* What is it ?
==

EOG Plugins is a collection of plugins for the Eye of GNOME Image Viewer.

* What's included in 2.28.0 ?
=

Plugins:

- Map
Provides a map view in the sidebar showing you where the current
picture was taken if it carries the neccessary GPS tags. Written by
Pierre-Luc Beaudoin. Requires libchamplain 0.4 and Clutter 1.0.

- Exif Display
Adds a page displaying a few selected Exif tags to the sidebar. It's
also possible to display a RGB histogram. Written by Emmanuel Touzery
  and extended by Jonathan Michalon.

- Zoom to fit image width
Adds a menu entry that adjusts the zoom factor so the image's width
fits into the window. Written by Javier Sánchez.

- Postr
Allows uploading images to Flickr using Postr. It's the oldest plugin
and we actually don't know if it is of use anymore as there are better
ways to do that now. Written by Lucas Rocha.

- Python Console
A port of the gedit plugin with the same name. Written in Python.
Ported by Diego Escalante Urrelo and Francisco Rojas.

- Slideshow Shuffle
The second plugin written in Python. It randomizes the image order
during slideshows. Written by Johannes Marbach.

GDM2 2.28.0 (stable), the New World Order Release

2009-09-21 Thread Brian Cameron

The 2.28.0 release is a stable release of the GNOME Display Manager
(GDM) program with the following bug fixes and improvements:

- Now GDM supports the ability to specify the automatic/timed login user
via a script via the same interface that the old GDM supported.
- Now the user's dmrc and face image files are stored in /var/cache/gdm,
so that the login process does not need to access the user's $HOME
directory before authentication. Refer to bug #565151.
- Fix the login GUI options widget so the language/session/layout
choices are not reset after a failed login.
- Fix language dialog so it does not crash if the user click's the OK
button when no language is selected.
- Fix to ensure that the login dialog regains focus after the language
  or layout dialogs are used.
- The language dialog has improved logic to sort the language names more
  correctly.
- Make sure to check error variable is not NULL before referencing it in
  the gdm-user-manager code.
- Make sure to not print NULL strings since this causes crashes on some
  platforms.
- Improve documentation.
