  2. warn this list about incoming POTFILES.in change
  3. change POTFILES.in in svn
would de more appreciated by translators.

BTW, could we update the freeze rules about changes to POTFILES.in
while in string freeze? I'm not asking for release team approval, just
developers have to notify gnome-i18n ML about the intent/need to
 update POTFILES.in before change it.

Developers do this afterwards currently, and I still don't see an
argument here why an upcoming 2.26.1 release should be a reason not to
fix a forgotten file in POTFILES.in, but instead wait and ship a release
which includes untranslatable strings by purpose.
Is it really all only about the but I want 100% in my stats?

These strings are untranslated at the moment anyway. By adding them to the

I know that some teams always are more tied to have a 100% statistic than

But what does it change? The strings are already there and are already
visible in english. I don't see how waiting can help translators --
adding the files to POTFILES.in as fast as possible on the contrary
gives more time to the translation teams that can manage to translate
those strings.

(and sure, it's unfortunate that some files were missing from
POTFILES.in and this is not something that we want to see happen, but it
does happen from time to time)

Hi!

Actually make distcheck complained about the missing files. I wonder a
bit why it didn't complain before because I am sure that I always run it
before the release. But that is also the reason why I fixed it now - no
release without successful distcheck!

Again, sorry about finding out so late but it doesn't make any
difference to the user and gives you the change to translate if for
the .2 release. Maybe the distributions are even able to include
translations for their packages.

Johannes

I'm completely with andre on this matter. Forgotten files in POTFILES.in
should be added ASAP, regardless of the period, as this will at least
give a chance to some teams to translate more completely the module.

OK, sorry, maybe I was to short in my previous email. I'm not saying
that developers should delay a fix for translators' sake.

I'm just saying that THIS case, the anjuta 2.26.1 release, the
POTFILES.in fix maybe generated confusion and frustiation in
translators. We was awaked by damned-lies automatic message announcing
10+ missing strings, but there was no more time to do or try anything
in order to update translations, 'cause the 2.26.1 package was yet
out.

From my point of view, my timezone, and my
wake-up-from-bed-and-check-email delay, there was no chance to do
anything, just stay and say shit, we've missed this release. Or, to
be honest, there was just to time to ping the Italian anjuta
translator and our committer, start to coordinate us and say no,
wait, stop: package is yet out.

This is the reason I'm asking developers to courteously announce a
similar fix _before_ the automatic warning from damned-lies, just
something like yes, we know it's too late, please consider this.
Could be helpfut at least to avoid unnecessary urgency.

Cheers, Luca.

There was no chance. I was late with the release because I Monday was a
holiday in Germany and I had already asked the release team if it would
be ok to release tuesday morning. When I finally ran make distcheck it
complained about missing files. I fixes that and rolled the release and
committed the changes.

But, nevertheless, it's absolutely no difference for the user because
the strings were untranslated before and in this release. If translators
care they can now be translated in the next release.

Note that this doesn't directly indicate a string freeze break, but it
might be worth investigating.

only miss 5 strings it's likely that not all strings are new.
