gnome-user-docs and gnome-getting-started-docs migrated to GitLab

2018-03-28 Thread Petr Kovar
Hi all,

Just a heads up that thanks to Carlos and Andrea from the GitLab team,
we've successfully migrated our core docs modules gnome-user-docs and
gnome-getting-started-docs to the GNOME GitLab instance:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-user-docs/
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-getting-started-docs

Open bugs from Bugzilla were also migrated and they are now called issues:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-user-docs/issues
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-getting-started-docs/issues

Read here how to update your existing clone:

https://wiki.gnome.org/Git/Developers#Convert_anonymous_repository_to_developer_access

I've also updated our wiki guides:

https://wiki.gnome.org/DocumentationProject/Contributing
https://wiki.gnome.org/DocumentationProject/Guide/DesktopHelp

In short, the new Github-like workflow for contributing is to fork the repo,
create a topic branch, commit, push, create a merge request and wait for
peer review.

No need to submit patches anymore.

We no longer use Bugzilla for anything and it will be completely
decommissioned later.

gnome-devel-docs will be migrated later.

Thank you,
pk

Where's that 3.10.3 supposed to be released? I don't see it in either

It's not a scheduled release, so only after we finish all the updates

Thanks for bringing this up. I believe that 2 weeks would be good.
Please let us know when the update is done.

We don't have two weeks until 3.10.2, according to the schedule:
   https://wiki.gnome.org/ThreePointEleven#d2013-11-11

I think the Friday before the tarballs due Monday would be a good
deadline to docs changes. Then we would have a full weekend to finish
   translating.

I'm not sure if we'll be finished in time for 3.10.2, in that case. If
we're not or translations are not done in time, then we will
definitely be making a 3.10.3 to make sure everything makes it in :)

  Hi there,

My team is translating the gnome-user-docs and we would like to send it
  in
time, even though it might not be 100% complete. So, just checking: any
final date defined to commit translations?

Lets say 21:00 UTC on Monday for 3.10.2.

We've got only one more major change to push for UI updates (out of
the very important updates), but we're still doing reviews of pages
 that have been flagged up.

If it helps, the C/figures/shell-lock.png and C/figures/nautilus.png
still need to be updated because the default lock screen background
changed and the window décor is now different. FYI, here is how we
 take screenshots:
 https://wiki.gnome.org/DocumentationProject/Screenshots and I've been

2013-11-09 Thread Ekaterina Gerasimova
Hi all, well, I think we're pretty much done with most of what we're
going to do now.

There are still some outdated pages, but we will aim to update these
for 3.10.3. If you come across any instructions that you know are
incorrect, please let me know or add them to
https://wiki.gnome.org/DocumentationProject/Tasks/DesktopHelp#Tasks_for_3.10

Thanks!

Hi all, there will be a 3.10.2 release of gnome-user-docs at some
point in the not distant future as we are still updating it for the UI
changes in the Shell that happened for 3.10. The changes are mostly
minor, but there are lots of them.

Once the updates are finished in the next few weeks, how much time do
you, translators, want for updating the translations before the
release? This is likely to be the last one for 3.10 and I will, of
course, let you know once we are done writing.

(I've been emailing this list as Gabor said at the GUADEC
mini-hackfest that it would help you guys to know what's going on. It
would be great if you could follow up on whether it is proving to be
 helpful or not.)

gnome-3-0 branch of gnome-user-docs

2011-04-21 Thread Shaun McCance
There was already a gnome-3-0 branch for gnome-user-docs.
I made this a while ago as a staging ground for the new
help. We then switched to master. In retrospect, I should
have named the branch differently.

I discovered through Blip that JHBuild is already using the
gnome-3-0 branch, so I went ahead and did the surgery to
make it actually current.

This is earlier than I would have like to do a stable branch,
but it's my own fault for naming a development branch poorly.

So from here on out, let's do our commits on the gnome-3-0
branch. I'll handle merging them into master.

Translation teams: you won't get an automatic notification
of the branch, because it was made long ago. So consider
this your branch notification.

Thanks,
Shaun

gnome-user-docs translations

2011-02-28 Thread Shaun McCance
Hi folks,

gnome-user-docs isn't listed on l10n.gnome.org. This module
has one Mallard document to translate: gnome-help. It used
to contain three DocBook documents, and we had translations
for those, so I assume it used to be listed.

The document isn't finished yet. We'll be doing a lot of work
on it at a hackfest in mid-March.

Thanks,
Shaun

If I understand it well, user-guide/admin-guide and accessibility-guide
are valid for gnome = 2.32, and gnome-help is for 2.32 ?

It's a bit difficult to configure this currently in l10n.gnome.org, as
we have not a per-branch domain setting. Do you plan to keep the old
guides in the master branch? Or will you move them in the tree?

The old documents aren't in the build. The configure script
only outputs a Makefile for gnome-help. But now that I think
about it, my guess is that DL just greps Makefile.am files,
without regard for configure.ac. (Blip does the same.)

I'll 'git rm' some files so they stop showing up in DL.

No, we manually adjust the database.

That wouldn't work.
Besides, it could be useful to keep them around for a while, for
example, a lot of accessibility-guide's content could be recycled into
orca's help, perhaps some teams still had no time to do that.

Claude: perhaps we could simply register a new module with another name
(gnome-help or something), using the same git module, and the new
document directory? Then the current g-u-d module can be left alone.

It works now with the current setup. When a docs directory does not

gnome-3-0 branch in gnome-user-docs

2010-04-26 Thread Shaun McCance
There's a gnome-3-0 branch in gnome-user-docs. Andre asked me
to send an explanation about this, since it's clearly not the
normal stable branching strategy.

This branch is going to be a hotbed of edits and re-edits and
thoroughly unstable content as we transition to Mallard. The
docs teams decided to do this on a branch to avoid massive
churn for translators. When the dust starts to settle, we'll
merge this back into master.

I'll also be creating the standard stable branch for 2.30.

Thanks,
Shaun

I'm sorry. I should have branched, knowing that Vincent

I'll try to create a gnome-2-22 branch today that doesn't

Thanks, that would be great. Would it also be possible to delay the

 I'm not ready yet :).

All right, there's now a gnome-2-22 branch from revision
855, which is right before Vincent started committing
his work to the Accessibility Guide.

I'll delay the 2.22 release until the last minute. If
