Bug description:
GNOME Zeitgeist uses a very simple Makefile at the moment, it is simple and it
is an advantage but it doesn't support common targets (such as dist (actually
there is echo Not yet implemented) or distcheck) necessary for integration
within the GNOME infrastructure (another example is a update-po target in po/).

Autotools can be perceived as scary, but they're not, and there is not much to
know of them to use them in GNOME Zeitgeist.

Another important benefit it will bring is possible integration within JHBuild,
so it can be distributed together with other GNOME related modules.

(btw this is also fixes the hardcoding of /usr/share/locale/ as localedir)

We need to export the active loggers like firefox and tomboy outside the
engine. We will pack them all in a new package zeitgeist-loggers and should
create a new process zeitgeist-loggers.sh that acts like a semi datasink for
all active loggers and sends it to the engine datasink.
As for the next couple of weeks it is not necessary for the engine to know its
Dataproviders.
This shoudl be done before release.
The positive side about this is that we can create a thread for every logger in
the process. This way if a logger drops the engine is not effected. plus
working on the engine can be much smoother when less code is in it.

ATM, when launching the Journal GUI, it takes 4-5 seconds to have it open. That

Everyone want everything to happen instantly, so there should be formal goal on
this. I propose to set the goal at something related to around 24 fps, that is
~0,05 seconds.
So, from clicking the button, it ideally shouldn't take more than 0,05 seconds
to bring it to your screen.

This is a rather large piece of functionality, but I think it would be quite
useful.

Users are not always working on just one computer, and to keep up with their
work flow, we need to find a way to support that.
To solve this, there should be a way of *really securely* uploading their logs.
(The secure part CANNOT fail!), in order to keep their work synchronized.

This can be achieved with pieces of information that is afloat, but not that
easily with stationary documents. However, we can try to fill in as many of the
pieces as we can:
- Web history is in the DB, that's easy.
- Mail history is maybe accessible, if the user uses IMap or similar
- Notes can be accessed by the use of Conduit, if I'm not mistaken (other
things too)
- Chat history is logged, but separately in e.g. the Pidgin log. The logs
should not be duplicated (that is unwanted, both because it adds storage, and,
more importantly, it makes it more difficult to cover your tracks, so to speak.
(I.e. deleting your logs)
- Videos, music, documents, etc. is usually not accessible, but could be, if we
add in optional support for Dropbox (proprietary alert).
-- Files that are not accessible could then be greyed out, to let the user see
it, although they can't use it.
-- The user is asked to use Dropbox for their most important work, that they
need to have with them at all times

find events (there are a few bars at the bottom that are higher than others)
but no events are shown.

I'm on Ubuntu 9.10 (64bit).
I just pulled from Lauchpad:
- gnome-activity-journal (rev460)
- zeitgeist (rev 1306)
- fungtk (rev15)

Compiled and installed zeitgeist and fungtk without problem.

When zeitgeist-deamon starts, it prints:
INFO:zeitgeist.sql:Using database:
/home/niklas/.local/share/zeitgeist/activity.sqlite
DEBUG:zeitgeist.extension:Loading extension 'Blacklist'
DEBUG:zeitgeist.blacklist:No existing blacklist config found
DEBUG:root:Checking for another running instance...
DEBUG:root:No running instances found.
INFO:root:Starting Zeitgeist service...
DEBUG:root:Updating database with new Recently Used Documents items
DEBUG:zeitgeist.engine:Inserted 27 events in 0.164585s

gnome-activity-journal fails 'sudo setup.py install' (but thats another story
since it can be run from the source folder I pulled via bzr).
In the main interface, the bar-diagram-thing at the bottom shows that there are
events (some bars are higher than others) but clicking on one of them shows
nothing.

This is the output from the shell when I run gnome-activity-journal:
Tracker disabled.

Bug description:
I propose gnome-activity-journal to keep track of recently accessed folders,
that is folders where some amount of activity has been done. Sometimes i'd like
to have this feature, because i work at several files in a folder and i better
remember this activity by the folder name than by ten or more different files.

Example:

I am in directory foo. Here i edit a python script, look at 10/15 images, edit
a latex source file, read the pdf file created, etc etc.
The day after i want to start this again, so i open gaj and i should see
something like:

some activity in folder foo [ * ]
   edited a file [+]
   read a document [+]
   worked with images [+]

Here [*] means go to this folder and [+] is an expander button (like the
existing one)

GAJ should be smart enough to know when multiple files have been
accessed/modified in the same folder and proposing to open that folder.

Just an idea

Cheers

Davide

AJ, as Zeitgeist's flagship, reallly needs a simple way to disable
the logging (make it set a match-everything blacklist). This will
cover the use case of I'm going to do something that shouldn't be
  logged.

Another thing we need is Whoops I forgot to disable the logging at
this time, therefore we need to allow the user to select a time range
and delete all events from that time.

Third, the blacklist plugin in AJ is hard to setup - we should focus
on a simple use case of don't log anything from this directory,
currently the user has to know that the plugin needs a uri-like
expression (file:///home/user/dont_log/*), and this isn't said
anywhere - Add folder button should be added there. (also the plugin
should be enabled by default, so it's a little bit easier to discover.

Usability: Need to Display Full File Paths

Status in GNOME Activity Journal:
  Fix Released

Bug description:

  Description of problem:
Realise it is early days and the Activity Journal/Zeitgeist look great so far
but to make it more useable, it needs to display full filepaths. At present,
if a user edits files with the same name on the same day, it is difficult to
discern them, even with the thumbnail preview.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

  How reproducible:
  Every time.

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Edit two different files with the same name such as
  ~/workingcopiessvn/jbossadminguide/introduction.xml and
  ~/workingcopiessvn/jbossprogrammersguide/introduction.xml
  2. Launch the Activity Journal.
  3. There will be two files, both named introduction.xml. The thumbnail
preview's effectiveness will be limited if the header data is the same in each
  XML file.

  Actual results:
  Two indistinguishable files.

  Expected results:
Full file paths displayed so which file is which can be discerned.

Reported in Fedora 13 against gnome-activity-

Re: [Gnome-zeitgeist-users] Zeitgeist/Emacs Integration

2010-06-20 Thread Siegfried Gevatter
2010/6/10 Patrick Michael Niedzielski patrickniedziel...@gmail.com:
 Hi all,

I am Patrick Niedzielski, an avid GNU/Linux user and programmer of the
_Humm and Strumm_ Free Software 3D adventure game [1].  I have been
using GNOME for many years, and I am extremely excited for the release
of GNOME 3 later this year.  I have already installed a preview of GNOME
Shell on Debian Sid, and of course Zeitgeist.  I am interested in this
new way of accessing files, and I think in conjunction with the older
file system method, this is a worthwhile direction for GNOME to travel.

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for your interest in Zeitgeist!

I am sorry that you didn't get an answer before; I ignored this e-mail
since I was busy with university work, and it looks like nobody else
saw it, probably because we've moved to a new mailing list on
lists.zeitgeist-project.com. I'm CC'ing the new mailing list.

I am interested in writing a Zeitgeist module for my favorite editor,
GNU/Emacs.  I use it far more the GEdit, and my files are obviously not
tracked by the Gnome Activity Journal.  For now, it would just contact
Zeitgeist when a file is loaded.  Maybe later, I could add a recently
used command, analogous to the new open dialogs [2].  To my knowledge,
Emacs doesn't have any integration with Zeitgeist.

This sounds great :).

Could someone point me to some documentation to understand how this may
be done?  Also, how should I submit it when it is finished (not an
in-depth project, maybe a LISP subroutine or two)?  Thanks!

You can find a complete reference at
http://zeitgeist-project.com/documentation . However, you're probably
better off just looking at some existing plugins, which you can find
here:

http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~zeitgeist-dataproviders/zeitgeist-dataproviders/trunk/files

Once you finish your plugin we can include it into the
zeitgeist-dataproviders repository.

 Cheers,
 Patrick Niedzielski patrickniedziel...@gmail.com

Hallo Thorsten,

2011/3/20 Thorsten Reinbold thorsten.reinb...@googlemail.com:
 Two questions about zeitgeist:
Will there be a PPA for Natty with the latest stuff?

I've just uploaded Zeitgeist 0.7.1 to Debian unstable and our
Maverick/Natty Ubuntu PPA. I'll see if we can get it officially into
Ubuntu Natty as well.

And is it possible to disable the debug-messages in .xsession-errors?

Not sure on this one, sorry.
