Re: GnuCash on ArchLinux

2017-09-10 Thread B. Dielhenn
As the error message indicates, the file integrity could not be verfied
using PGP. Possible reasons are missing PGP keys or file corruption. To
verify that pacman knows the key you can run 'pacman-key --list-keys'
and check if pacman has the keys of e.g."Jan de Groot " (and the other packagers). If there is a problem with the file
downloaded from the repo, you could try to select another mirror in
/etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist and run pacman -Syy. Do not forget to remove
the downloaded packages (e.g. libart-lgpl) from /var/cache/pacman/pkg
to enforce a fresh download. The 15 failing packages are from the
official repository and not from AUR. This are only runtime and build
dependencies for gnucash (or its transitive dependencies). I hope this
information helps you to build gnucash.

try using the new version of the transaction report I posted. It allows

The new version of the transaction report I posted has a check box named
"composite". If you check the box and select the entire year for the time
period it will give you the total for each description.

installed from AUR without problems. I agree with Bernhard that it
sounds like a local issue, not AUR. Mike

You believe wrong.

One accounts for units in a unit trust as units. Please STUDY the Tutorial and
Concepts Guide, paying particular attention to the chapters on Investments and
Capital Gains, where you’ll learn how to use GnuCash to account for
non-currency assets.

So, did you run these commands?
pacman-key --populate archlinuxpacman-key --refresh-keys
This seems to be a local issue on your machine and not an AUR related

Hello Andres,
is this a fresh installation of archlinux? Did you run
pacman-key --populate archlinuxpacman-key --refresh-keys
as root?

envelope budgeting (was Re: New report - Compare current spending versus historic average)

Hello Doug,

Let me admit that few times I tried to migrate from Gnucash to some of the
#plaintextaccounting packages - {beancount,(h)ledger}, but after some time
returned back to GC. :-)

Data entry, reconcilation, general UI are great in GC as well as available
reports. The only practical thing which bugs me is to make better use of budget
feature - unfortunately, not used, afaik, by any core GC dev.

However, your work (aka reports) make me hopefuly that it would be possible to
do everything here and stay with Gnucash.

I read some past articles about doing 'envelope budgeting' with GC by creating
parallel 'budget' accounts and include them in every transaction, but it all
looks a bit complicated when my needs are probably not so extensive.

Your report can help to arrive at e.g. average amount for each Expense account
I'm interested in and it would be great if one could use those to, somehow,
automagically enter those amounts in the estimated entry fields for each month
within budget's period since Estimate function in Budget feature does calculate
values based on the past amounts for *each* month separately, which makes
amount skewed - e.g. I pay car insurance and associated costs once per weak and
would like that the cost is distibuted evenly throughout the year. Same with
the cost for heating (gas) which greatly differs between summer/winter season?

Do you believe it's possible without going too deep in the GC's core?

I'd like to be able to (easily) create yearly budget based on my previous
expenses and to always have insight how I'm doing, iow. how are actual expenses
are in comparison with the yearly budget's plan so we can plan further expenses
accordingly depending if we are spending over/under the budget.

Do you have any suggestion how to take advantage of current Gnucash's
technology to achieve that and what parts/reports do you see missing which
could be done by the end-user's report(s)?

I'm also interested if you can throw some advice in regard to learning
Guile/Scheme for the purpose of GC reporting although I'm afraid that at the
time when I learn enough of it, Gnucash will abandon it. :-)

In the past I wanted to learn/use Racket, but never had enough time and/or
purpose to really do it.

Sincerely,
Gour

Unit Trusts assistance development

2017-09-10 Thread Hylton Conacher (ZR1HPC)

Hi,

I am a new user of Gnucash 2.6.17 on a Mac and after many years using
the earlier versions (95/98) of Quicken on Windows Have started a fresh
set of accounts on Gnucash, for personal use, since the 1st Sept.

I have managed to operate my way through how different the app works,
and am actually enjoying the learning experience.

In the years previous to this I have invested funds in several unit
trusts, or what I believe some call, Mutual Funds.

I would like to add the current balances of the unit trusts as opening
balances in Gnucash however despite reading the on-line manual and doing
some Google searching as well as Bugzilla searching, have been unable to
successfully create the following unit trust type of account hierarchy,
as the account type is not specified.

Further delving into the app trying to use either 'Stock' or 'Mutual
fund' did not assist as then I needed to select the 'Security/Currency'.
When I clicked on Select it only showed non-currency related items, and
none of them in south Africa. As my country currency is not listed,
despite being listed if I choose to add an 'Asset' account.

The composition of the units purchased is decided by the parent company
from which you are buying the unit trusts. The money given to the
company for the purchase of your units is invested in a variety of
assets that should provide a return i.e. gold bullion, stocks purchased
in a particular range of companies, bonds etc.
As the value of those investments increases i.e. those companies
invested in are now worth more, so the value of a unit trust unit increases.
The parent company has absolute discretion on where and when it wants to
invest your money and so manages the risk and ensures a positive return
on investment, allowing them to take a fee of the profit earned.

A unit trust will normally be traded in the home country currency but
may be traded in a completely different currency i.e. whilst the home
currency is ZAR, I may have a unit trust that is traded in GBP. A unit
trust consists of units purchased, usually to 2 or 3 decimal points i.e.
0.01 or 0.001 but some might be more, a price per full unit and then the
currency value of the total units held in that particular named unit trust.

I believe this unit trust account type needs further development work
and wonder if there is a work around?

I have raised a feature request

to request this further enhancements to Gnucash.
