Re: only deposits show

2017-10-02 Thread David Carlson
You do not mention important details that are needed to give a definitive
answer, but assuming that you followed the a likely path, you exported
transactions from your Quicken file in QIF format then imported them into
GnuCash in the same format.

The QIF format creates a data section for each account which includes
transfers to or from whatever other accounts are used. To get complete
information you need a section for every asset and liability account in
your file. I would guess that you are missing some sections for some of
your accounts.

It happens that Quicken uses the term Category for account types Income and
Expense, and there is no need to have QIF sections for Categories, but all
Asset and Liability accounts need to be imported individually or in a
combined file.

If your Quicken file is large we usually recommend breaking down your QIF
file into separate files for each account, and possibly for limited time
intervals, such as Bank1_2016, Bank1_2015, etc. This helps to get better
results with matching the two sides of transfers during the import and
avoiding Imbalance entries.

Good Luck.

Re: budget with ytd difference option and ?improved? readability

2017-10-02 Thread Larry

HI,
I am new too and don't have gnucash on my tablet. I was able to create a new
style with borders that makes it easier to read the tables in the report. I
can't tell you how for a day or two due to being quite tied up but if you look
up styles you may be able to figure it out.

Well, idiot here figured out the primary problem. I had File Explorer's View
option inadvertently set to hide file extensions. The two files I downloaded
actually had .txt extensions (e.g., budget-plus.scm.txt). Yet another reason
to dislike Windows :-)

I renamed the files and successfully ran a Budget+ report. However, I have
an issue. (I'm providing details in case anyone has questions on how to run
this report).

I created a budget, which had a Budget Period beginning on 01/01/2017 and 12
Periods, via Actions -> Budget -> New Budget. I then opened (Action ->
Budget -> Open Budget) the newly created budget .

I then did Reports -> Budget -> Budget+ Report while the budget was open and
chose these report options:
General: Yearly Budget option. Display: Show Budget, Show Actual, Show
Difference, YTD Difference, Show Column with Totals.

Things look good at a cursory glance. /However, there aren't any cell colors
or borders/.

Re: [Solved] - OFX failing for Bank Of America Checking

2017-10-02 Thread Bill Starrs

Hi, was able to resolve the issue by generating a client GUID for the
account in aqbanking. When I tried to download transacations I received
an error.

I logged in on the web and was presented with a dialog to accest T for
online banking and was given 10 minutes to connect.

I went back to Gnucash and successfully downloaded transactions.

I also changed the AppId to QWIN 2600 (which I assume would be Quicken
2017).

Re: [MAINT] Network Work on Code Sunday, Oct 1, 1-4pm EDT

2017-10-02 Thread GWB
So AT's network equipment works when nothing is connected to it?
Clearly this is a success story. If the tech had been allowed to try
the new modem, that would have greatly sped up the troubleshooting
process. If it had worked as before, then problem solved. If not,
then you could debug your network topography on your side.

That's actually more frustrating than I thought. Maybe another phone
call to ask them to just please try a different modem before you spend
all that time chasing a problem that might not exist.

I have managed to keep the static (fixed) IP I have, but not without a
struggle. The solution is sometimes just having a "dumb" modem
connected to the LAN with the switching equipment at the telecomm set
to assign a fixed IP. Sometimes I have to lease a fixed IP from a
different provider who then contracts with a local telecomm. In any
event, it's worth it, and necessary.

Check around. Anywhere from Cambridge to Dedham should be any number
of telecomm trunk leasing outfits.

 Just a quick follow-up.

AT did come, and with their help we debugged the network only to

I'm now in the process of trying to debug further, but it's going to
take time. Expect further interuptions until I can isolate the issue.

Alas, they basically said "disconnect all your equipment to prove to us
it's *OUR* problem", and of course when I did do that I was able to show
there was no problem. So from their perspective it's a problem on my end,
not theirs.

The tech actually did have a new modem box for me, but wasn't allowed to
install it. The fact that I have static IPs from them is half the problem
with why he couldn't just replace the modem. Also the fact that the
problem only occurs when my network devices are connected. :(

I've still got a few avenues to explore.

The fact that it started at midnight just seems suspicious (or highly
coincidental).

Derek,

Sorry to hear that, and its frustrating. Perhaps AT could, in the

the problem? I've been through this with various T line providers,

If you're just starting out then I'd suggest you try a do-over. These
imbalances imply that you did not assign correct Income/Expense accounts

"mass assign" transactions. So I suggest you start over and re-do the

Re: Report Question

2017-10-02 Thread David T. via gnucash-user
Mike,

I think the question is more about the report and how it aggregates
information, rather than how the accounts are structured (although, of course
that too can affect things). As Christopher Lam replied to the original
poster’s posting of this on Saturday, the likely answer is to change the
settings on the report to increase the number of bars in the report, or to do
as Maf suggests, and reduce the accounts selected for the report.

Joe, did you try what Christopher suggested on Saturday, when you posted this
originally? If not, why did you post the question again?

Hi Joe,

I think the only way to do what you want is to run the report with some of the
accounts de-selected.

Effectively, the report is saying that you have more accounts than it has bars
available. so running the report again with the individual larger accounts
off will allow GC to drill into the "other" summary. I think.

Report Question

2017-10-02 Thread Joseph Hesse

Hi,

I am using the latest version 2.6.17 of gnucash.  I just ran the report
"Expense Over Time = Expense Barchart" with the maximum number of
vertical bars selected. The report lists all my expense items including
one called "Other". Since the amount of "Other" is high, I would like to
get a breakdown of the expense items included under "Other".

Is there a way to do this?

Thank you,

Joe Hesse
