My GNUCash System Will Not Launch

2017-12-22 Thread John Mraz
Hi – could do with some help please.

I just recently upgraded my Mac system to macOS 10.13.2 High Sierra. Tried to
start Gnucash (version 2.6.1 ??) and it will not open; receive an error message
“Gnucash cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to
make sure Gnucash works with this version of macOS….”

What can I do – o I need re-install latest version; if yes, will I loose all DB?

Appreciate any suggestions.

Johno

Re: Reports Not Responding Windows 10

2017-12-22 Thread David T. via gnucash-user
I had to check on my own machine (Mac OS X 10.11.6 GC 2.6.14), but there are no
delays here.

I had to check because, for me, the first report is always run at startup, when
I am not really paying attention. If the problem really is a delay on the
first-run report only, perhaps a workaround would be to have a report run at
startup, to get the delay out of the way. This would also give you more time to
brew your coffee before sitting down to work the books! ;)

I use a flatbed scanner and scan into another directory.
I will scan a pile of skinny receipts at once, arranging them for best
fit on the flatbed, and holding them down with small flat metal
weights, aka keys.
Keeping up to date with scanning is the best way to deal with the pain
of the flatbed scanner.
At work we have the sort of scanner that scans both sides etc, but
varying paper sizes and torn edges create problems - neither way is
optimum.

Re: Reports Not Responding Windows 10

The 30 seconds delay special Windows is in addition to the time necessary to
compute a report from a large book. With the 20+ years of history in my primary
account it can take 3 or 4 minutes to generate a report. That part runs the
progress bar so that one at least sees that something is happening.

I'm guessing my liability encumbrances look a bit different from what
you're talking about. In my case, the encumbrance is made like this:

Expense:Discretionary Earningsx
  Liabilities:Discretionary x

And relieved by

Liabilities:Discretionary x
Assets:Checking x

This way, discretionary purchases don't show up directly on profit and
loss, only what I care about: the expense of earning discretionary funds.
What you're talking about is probably populated more like

Assets:Chequingx
   Liabilities:Organ Fundx

Then some expense:

Expense:Organ x
  Assets:Chequing x

But then how is the encumbrance relieved?

transaction look?

Try and wait for up to about 30 seconds. I know it's a long time -- but it
eventually does show up. This is a known bug that has been presented in the
archives here before. Not sure why it is -- and it does require some
patience.

Re: Gnucash on Linux Mint

2017-12-22 Thread Les

Thanks David.

I am very familiar building an app, but when you go down that path,
there is no upgrade, so you are sort of locked into that method.  In the
past, I have gotten bogged down with dependencies, but like you stated,
can be handled with apt. A long time ago, I used Gentoo.

Being lazy, I will just wait for the next getdeb update. :-)

Hi Les,

The Linux Mint Software manager version is usually 1-2 releases behind the
latest release of Gnucash. getDeb is sometimes a bit more up to date.
Unless there are specific features/fixes in the latest release that you need
then 2.6.17 which is the current LM version should be OK.

If not, it is not too hard to build on Linux Mint using the instructions at
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building#Ubuntu_16.04_LTS_.28Xenial_Xerus.29.
If you aren't familiar with cmake use the Autotools build.

I usually run ..gnucash/configure setting the --prefix option to
/usr/local/bin rather than /opt/gnucash or /opt/gnucash-devel until it
reports no errors, installing any packages it reports it needs as errors
that are not already installed. There is a list of dependencies in the
README.dependencies files and most can be installed directly with apt before
running the ..gnucash/configure.

locale from de_DE to de_CH, system uses en_us, data is safed in
database.
I am wondering if, and how this could affect above?

bug (?) assigning payment to foreign current account

2017-12-22 Thread Paul Neuwirth
Hello,
is it worth an official bug report, or am I doing something wrong?
Everything worked, until I changed the type of a place holder account
from A/Payable to Liability, it is the parent of the Account I was
trying to book to. (but reverting the change does not fix)

Here are the screenshots, and description:
(just noticed, the problem exists anywhere, where the corresponding
dialog is used).
right click on booking in bank account, assign as
payment, select vendor, change amount from EUR (EUR 27.43) to value in
GBP (GBP 23.99). https://www.swabian.net/extern/gncml/gnucash9.png

next dialog:
message, that the currencies differ. that's ok
https://www.swabian.net/extern/gncml/gnucash10.png

after clicking ok, it gets unnormal:
https://www.swabian.net/extern/gncml/gnucash11.png
the normally editable exchange rate fields are disabled.
I can only press cancel (then nothing is being done) or click ok:

error, that It could not save to database
https://www.swabian.net/extern/gncml/gnucash12.png
the database error is:
mysql error: Column 'commodity_guid' cannot be null

the entries become inconsistent:
no values on the left side,
on the other side the booking shows up normal (with correct value GBP
23.99).

It is reproducable, also using other currencies, like USD.
the concerned accounts are configured as following:
> SELECT a.name,a.account_type,c.mnemonic,a.hidden,a.placeholder,p.name
> parent FROM gnucash.accounts a join gnucash.commodities c
 on a.commodity_guid = c.guid
  left join gnucash.accounts p on p.guid=a.parent_guid
where a.name IN ('Verbindlichkeiten','Passiva','1601 Verbindlichkeiten
GBP','1602 Verbindlichkeiten USD','Privatkonten
1','Privatentnahmen/-einlagen','1802 private Mastercard') order by
a.code

 1. row *
name: Passiva
account_type: LIABILITY
mnemonic: EUR
  hidden: 0
 placeholder: 1
  parent: Root Account
 2. row *
name: Verbindlichkeiten
account_type: LIABILITY
mnemonic: EUR
  hidden: 1
 placeholder: 1
  parent: Passiva
 3. row *
name: Privatentnahmen/-einlagen
account_type: BANK
mnemonic: EUR
  hidden: 0
 placeholder: 0
  parent: Privatkonten 1
 4. row *
name: Privatkonten 1
account_type: BANK
mnemonic: EUR
  hidden: 0
 placeholder: 1
  parent: Root Account
 5. row *
name: 1601 Verbindlichkeiten GBP
account_type: PAYABLE
mnemonic: GBP
  hidden: 0
 placeholder: 0
  parent: Verbindlichkeiten
 6. row *
name: 1602 Verbindlichkeiten USD
account_type: PAYABLE
mnemonic: USD
  hidden: 0
 placeholder: 0
  parent: Verbindlichkeiten
 7. row *
name: 1802 private Mastercard
account_type: BANK
mnemonic: EUR
  hidden: 0
 placeholder: 0
  parent: Privatentnahmen/-einlagen
7 rows in set

as I mentioned previously, all I did to let this not work anymore is
changing account_type of "Verbindlichkeiten" (2nd row) from PAYABLE to
LIABILITY - to avoid getting payments on this place holder account. I
have now set it back (and restarted), but the misbehaviour stays.

installed gnucash (on openSUSE Leap 42.2)
> zypper info gnucash
Information for package gnucash:

Repository : Main Update Repository
Name : gnucash
Version: 2.6.16-3.3.1
Arch : x86_64
Vendor : openSUSE
Installed Size : 25.6 MiB
Installed : Yes
Status : up-to-date
Source package : gnucash-2.6.16-3.3.1.src
Summary: Personal Finance Manager

can anyone reproduce? or understand?

Thank you

Schwab shows no tranactions

2017-12-22 Thread Dan Nelms
Hello. I'm just setting up GnuCash under Windows10. I've set up Schwab
with OFX direct connect. Everything is working perfectly in GnuCash
except when I try to download from my Schwab brokerage account it tells
me there are no transactions for the period I've indicated. I know there
are transactions. I've checked the dates and even selected a broader
date range and still the no transactions message. My credit card and
bank accounts work fine. I know I have the right Schwap because it
retrieved my account numbers and I have a GnuCash account associated
with it. Any help with Schwab brokerage accounts? Dan.
