Re: [GNC] GC keeps prompting me to create an account and it just won't away

2018-06-12 Thread David Carlson
Here is a tip. When that (...) does not exist ... prompt appears, if you
do not know which transaction triggered it, click on the red x button to
close the file. this will bring up a prompt asking if you want to save
your changes to a certain named window, which may be an account name or
search results, for example. This will help you find the offending
transaction. Once you have the offending transaction in focus, delete all
the characters in the account field. then you will get a chance to exit the
transaction abandoning all changes. Now you can save the file and continue
entering data or close the file.

[GNC] GC keeps prompting me to create an account and it just won't away

2018-06-12 Thread Art via gnucash-user
I must've hit the wrong button somewhere because I keep getting this pop-up,
Account ExpenseAccounts:Food:fruits:bananasHot dog 1.99*2 does not exist, would
you like to create it, Yes/No?To which I answer, "No" but the pop-up just shows
up again!I finally said, "Yes", then canceled the thing. That seems to have
fixed the problem.
I'm running GC 3.0 Build 2.6.17b-2765-g70e636646+(2018-04-01) under Ubuntu
17.10.This version has sticky fields. I.e., whenever I duplicate transactions,
I have to click on the original so I can overwrite the text.

[GNC] Wiki:Installation/Building; was: Ubuntu 18.04

yes, much better., e.g.:
The latest released GnuCash version is {{Version}}. If you want a more
recent version than your distribution provides, see [[Building]].

We should also reformulate
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building#Disclaimer, but

The current page covers only "Building from Git".
Do we want to decribe other methods, e.g. building from source tarball?
Are there more methods?
In the same page or others?

Before the page was moved in the developer section and got the
disclaimer, we got many questions from normal users who had read
[[Building]] instead of [[Installation]]. (alphabethical order of pages)

I was able to get 2/3 by doing them one by one, at the moment I can't
recall which one I couldn't get.

However, I was able to build GC and import OFX files.

Re: [GNC] File, Import transactions, Match Transactions form Select account

2018-06-12 Thread Steve Cohen
I'm using 3.0 on Ubuntu 18.04. I endorse this suggestion. This is
about the only thing I miss about Quicken.

On 06/11/2018 09:36 PM, David Carlson wrote:

Robert,

It makes a difference which type of file you are importing and whether you
are using one of the 2.6.x releases or or a 3.x release and possibly which
operating system your computer has. Your comment makes a good point but it
may or may not have been addressed already.

When selecting accounts from:
File-> Import -> Match Transactions form -> Select account
I find it tedious to always have to click on the arrow to expand the sub
accounts. It would be really nice if the Account Selection form from an
account transaction could be used instead. Unless there is a faster
keystroke method.

for instance when in an account if I type exp: it takes me to expenses,
then
rep: takes me to expenses:repairs: then h automatically takes me to
expenses:repairs:home

In the File Import Match Transactions form I have to double click, then I
can type exp to get to expenses but then I have to click with mouse on the
arrow (sometimes it takes a couple clicks) then click on rent to expand it
as well, then on home.

Re: [GNC] Ubuntu 18.04

2018-06-12 Thread Steve Cohen
Thanks. This is just what I needed. Somehow I managed to get something
done without it, which works, but I probably should install a few more
things. Looks like I got all the headers needed to compile but
something may blow up if I actually try to invoke it.

One problem with 18.04:

OFX File importing

sudo apt-get install libofx6 libofx4 libofx-dev

$ sudo apt-get install libofx6 libofx4 libofx-dev
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package libofx6
E: Unable to locate package libofx4

What will this lack cause?

Thanks, John. Now I'm stuck on aqbanking. I haven't yet been able to
get this to work properly previously, but I haven't given up so I'd like

Is there some site you can go to that gives the name of the ubuntu
packages to install in order to have these libraries and headers
available? I'd rather not have to bug the list about each one.

The main wiki page has limited edit access, but
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Installation
would be a good place to hook
