GnuCash saves the sizes and positions of its windows in the "book" file of its state directory. Re: [GNC] transaction not appear
Chris, A common problem often occurs with date entry. At one stage 4 digit dates were not recognized automatically and a date enterd in 2018 coiuld appear in a year '20 for example. The other possibility is the d-m-y or m-d-y ambiguity which can put transactions in the wrong month. GnuCash appears to be pretty good at setting up locales in the V3 series and interpreting date formats but it is worth checking the preferences ( Edit->Preferences->Date_Time tab ). Re: [GNC] transaction not appear
The truthful answer is that, unless you closed the file without saving, they're wherever you put them. But that's not terribly helpful. :-) Simplest thing is to let GC find them for you. Go into the Accounts page and press Ctrl+F. This will initiate a search of all transactions in all accounts. I usually find it helpful to search by "Description, notes, or memo", and just enter some word that I used in one of the missing transactions. Once you've located them, make sure that the transaction date is what you thought. If the transaction still doesn't appear in the account or report were you're expecting it, check whether you've got a filter in place that is hiding it. -- Regards, Stan Brown Tompkins County, New York, USA http://BrownMath.com http://OakRoadSystems.com On 2019-07-22 20:08, Chris Tsuji wrote: > > > HI > Hope that someone can help. > Since July 14, i have typed several transactions and they do not appear. > where are they located? > gnucash 3.3 > mac os 10.14.5 > > Thanks for your help in advance. > Chris tsuji > ___ > gnucash-user mailing list > gnucash-user@gnucash.org > To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: > https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user > If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see > https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. > - > Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. > You can do this by using Reply-To-List or Reply-All. > ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Re: [GNC] How to enter Gold?
Michael I wonder what???s the best practice on how to enter physical Gold into GNC. Is there anybody who has done that before? I added gold to my list of "thingies" fairly recently. The way I did it: (1) Right click on the Assets class and choose New Account (2) In the window that appears enter an Account Name (let's say BULLION); optionally enter an Account Code and description (3) The next bit is a bit odd but bear with me: in the Security/currency section click Select... in the mini window that appears under Type choose Currencies and then for Currency scroll almost to the bottom and choose XAU. Then click OK (4) Back in the main window for the Smallest fraction I'd select 1/1 (5) Make sure that the Account Type is Asset, add anything else you want and click OK (6) And you will have an account called BULLION appear under Assets. As far as I can see this account can be used to record your holding of gold but, of course, you will need to enter the purchase of said gold and (I assume) you'll want to track its value This is where that odd bit comes in. As far as I can see purchasing the gold is done in much the same way as you'd buy some shares EXCEPT THE UNIT IS ONE TROY OUNCE. Note that this means that if you buy coins (or jewellry, I guess) you'll have to find the gold content - I found that relatively straight forward. Now, when you update share prices XAU is automatically included and (rather magically to my mind appears) as GBP (I'm in the UK and GBP is my base currency). Rather magically because the price of gold is usually quoted (on the web) in USD - but hey, let's say we're lucky that someone has waved a magic wand behind the scenes. It all seems rather simple now but at the time it took some work to get my head around things, whilst I was in that mode I was using a dummy copy of my accounts - slight hint, it may be best that you do too. I guess you are in Germany, they are a sensible people so they may work in grams. A dummy transaction (in the dummy accounts) and some hand checking may show up any extra niggles One major mistake I made was in the buying of the gold. The bullion dealer's web site said "purchase gold using a credit card or debit card". In my innocence (or as my wife called it "stupidity") I used a credit card. The card company hit me with a hefty "cash transfer" fee. Thinking about (post event!) it seems obvious why. Good luck. Re: [GNC] Concern with the lengthy list of "Known Issues"
Hi, I am using gnucash since 2004 for multiple accounts and have my whole personal history since then in one file. I am running gnucash on MacOs in German which is somewhat special and the only dev for MacOs is John. Thanks to him for all the work putting he is putting in! I was a pretty happy user up until 3.0. But with the 3.x series there are more problems than I am used to and progress is very slow. The only version working for me so far is 3.5, which is my production version for now. Versions before crashed or failed on important operations (like the csv importer, which is the main reason I am using 3.x). 3.6 apparently has a stray ifdef on MacOs which makes the program always fall back to English. So I am back to 3.5. And the release cycle is pretty long. So even when bugs are fixed it takes a lot of time to get them in a stable build. As much as I am proponent of using the latest software versions: with gnucash 3.x I cannot wholeheartedly recommend it. The good thing though is that you can try and go back. The latest 2.x version reads 3.x files. And switching between 3.x versions back and forth works too. You replied correctly. You apparently clicked the "Reply to List" option. If there is an option in your mail client to "Reply to All", that would work also. Replying directly to a poster's email address only is discouraged. If the "List" isn't included in the dialog others couldn't benefit in the resolution, or realize when the issue is resolved. Re: [GNC] Concern with the lengthy list of "Known Issues"
I think it would be a big help if that list were sorted by priority so the many that are either minor or feature requests were separated from others. Re: [GNC] Concern with the lengthy list of "Known Issues"
I started with 2.x and had a couple of very irritating issues. When discovered 3.5, I up-graded and my issues were history. I have since upgraded one of my systems to 3.6 still have only minor inconveniences. I believe that I noticed the list you mentioned but I have seen similar lists in a lot of SW that I use and treat is as more of a "wish list" of things that might need fixing. (In the process of up-grading, I discovered the manuals and have been able to improve my GC experience greatly.)Bruce On 2019-07-21 13:31, scotts wrote:> I'm looking for other opinions. Re: [GNC] Include Account Numbers on Trial Balance Message-ID:
I learned bookkeeping BC (before computer). As a result, I do most of my work in the General Journal. When I set up the accounts in GC the account number was part of the name, ie: 101 Cash on Hand. This is one way of getting the account numbers on the reports. I use GC for both personal accounts and a non-profit organization. It is much better than the old excel spreadsheets that I had been using.Bruce On Mon, 22 Jul 2019 Christopher Lam wrote This is not currently possible in the Trial Balance. Re: [GNC] Include Account Numbers on Trial Balance
Thank you. I have raised an enhancement. I do not know how to respond to Liz as there is no email address? My reply to her is that it is a requirement from my accountant.
