[GNC] Match Transactions Ingest Pane Wider Than Screen

2021-02-22 Thread Helman Frow
Hello. First time listener; first time caller.

I often use the Import feature to ingest transactions from CSV files.
Typically this goes without incident but today, after upgrading to 4.4 I
started the import process and discovered that the 5-step import process
windows are significantly wider than my screen of 2560x1440. Moreover the
window can not be resized in width; only in height.

Double-clicking to maximize the window did not help; the right side of the
window extended past the edge of my display. The only way to proceed was to
drag the window to the left to access the navigation buttons.

Is this a known bug?

2021-02-22 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Unless I'm looking at a different screenshot, or my eyesight is terrible
(certainly possible) I read all of the column headings the same, and
just fine. They are slightly more bold than other parts of the UI, but
no less 'sharp'.

Note, I'm using a standard DPI monitor with a large screen. (1920x1080 @
27in) That looks fairly crummy by most modern standards, but normal if
you grew up with worse and never had better.

If Gabriele is using an IPS/Hi-DPI display, I could understand there
might be an issue. I think there are some bugs on this already, but they
might also be GTK related, rather than GnuCash.

Adrien

Can you provide a screenshot of that error message? (attach at the end,
*not* in-line, you may have to adjust your e-mail app settings for this)

What happens if you try to delete an account? (you say you cannot, note
that is done from *within* GnuCash.)

App logs are stored with your data file, does your OS report an error
when you try to delete them? Can you provide a screenshot of that error.

I think there is some mix-up here between what GnuCash does and general
handling of your files. (managed by the operating system) But we can
help you sort that out.

Re: [GNC] Debit/Credit in csv imports

2021-02-22 Thread Adrien Monteleone

Read over the importer help again.

I don't use it personally, but I do recall from reading about it, that
there is a way to specify additional splits on subsequent rows, however,
you have to have your CSV formatted correctly, and I think you have to
tell GnuCash you are using that format so it will expect additional
splits in those rows.

GNU Cash makes the transactions which are linked to a GBP transfer account a

accounts which I had not specified. I think it is attempting to do the FX
conversion but it gets it the wrong way round. It also does not allow me to
override and specify a [correct] non-USD transfer account.

If I manually enter a transaction as per my import file, it does not split the
account and immediately asks me for the FX rate and I can get that and it
converts it normally.

Is this a known issue with trying to import foreign currency bank accounts?

Thanks

Re: [GNC] Copying reports from one machine to another

2021-02-22 Thread randix
I use dropbox as the location for my main GnuCash data file, accessible by
each of my laptops.

Since I don't update or create custom reports very often. on each of my
laptops I have 2 batch files that are easily accessible. If I'm working on
Laptop A and update or create a customized report, I use one batch file
which automatically transfers the report file(s) from its dedicated
location, to dropbox. Then on my other laptops I use another batch file
which automatically transfers the report file(s) from that laptop's dropbox
location, and copies them to the "correct" location on that laptop where
GnuCash reports are stored.

Might be an easier way, like using a sync program, but honestly, I update or
create customized reports so infrequently, the two versions of my batch
files in conjunction with dropbox work for me.

As someone else noted, it sure would be nicer if all of the reports, etc.,
were stored in the same location as the main GnuCash data file.

Re: [GNC] CSS Troubleshooting for Transaction reports

2021-02-22 Thread Adrien Monteleone
If you want to play with this further, I would recommend
saving/exporting the report (which by default, is HTML) and opening in a
web browser, then use the browser's Developer Inspector tools to play
with the CSS in real time. When you have it to your liking, adjust your
stylesheet accordingly in GnuCash.

Note, for most if not all reports, the layout is still using the
1990s/2000s method of 'everything is, or is in, a table'. Modern CSS no
longer follows that pattern, so you'll have some adjustments to make to
work with the report. Because of this, many cells that hold various
headings and totals do not have IDs or Classes to expose them for
styling. (the styles are hard-coded inline) And since the entire report
is a table, you don't have otherwise semantic elements to style either.

If you can't get it the way you want due to these issues, I'd recommend
opening the report in a spreadsheet and making it pretty there instead.

Regards,
Adrien
