Step 1 and 2 work.  The rest does not work.  I still get the no suitable
backend error.  It has to be a compatibility issue with Flatpak and my
computer.

This will pop-up an on-screen keyboard when a typing field has focus.
That's not the best workaround, but it will help a bit.

As for GnuCash, what about the USB access info from the Wiki?

If you've never gotten the flatpak to work right, I'd suspect that is
the issue.

So try this in order from a terminal:

1. sudo flatpak override org.gnucash.GnuCash
--filesystem=$PATH_TO_USB_DRIVE

(that is all one line)

2. flatpak run org.gnucash.GnuCash /media/jeffrey/'Mac
Drive'/Ledgers/Dad/Dad.gnucash

(again all one line)

If that works, close GnuCash and try clicking your desktop shortcut
again. You should be good to go.

If that doesn't work, try moving a copy of the file to your Home
folder, then trying from a terminal:

flatpak run org.gnucash.GnuCash /home/jeffrey/Dad.gnucash

If that doesn't work either, something else is wrong.

Adrien

Re: [GNC] create desktop icons for GNC 4.9 Flatpak on Ubuntu

2022-04-01 Thread Jeff

Okay, finally got a new keyboard.  They make great toys for parrots.

I have tried all of the suggestions presented and I can still not make a
desktop icon for the GNC Flatpak version to load a specific set of
books.  I did get one icon to work but I do not trust it, it does not
place the GNC icon on the desktop, just a generic CSV, and it also
places all log files on the desktop ( I use uncompressed XML).  I did
not have any issues creating icons prior to using Flatpak.

2022-04-01 Thread Adam J. Griff, Ph.D.

Wanted to give a quick CONGRATS on this new release with added features.
Great work adding the new features on generic import transaction matcher
of ofx/qfx specifically append on updating and clearing and ability to
edit description/memo/notes. I had been missing the ability to put what
the purchase was for on an entry during import and having to go back
after import to update the details.

Subject: [GNC] ANNOUNCE: GnuCash 4.10 Released

The GnuCash development team announces GnuCash 4.10, the eleventh release in
the stable 4.x series

Between 4.9 and 4.10, the following bugfixes were accomplished:

Bug 684507 - commodity namespace should be localized
Bug 741674 - Newly created Scheduled Transactions appear in existing
search windows
Bug 797501 - Currency symbols in Hebrew (RTL) language
Bug 797772 - Allow reconciliation report to double filter by both posting
and reconciliation date
Bug 798164 - Import transaction window does not allow changing the
transaction description.
Bug 798272 - up/down arrow keys do not work in account selection pop-up
Bug 798375 - Transfer Account Selection not editable after typing error
Bug 798386 - Cannot increment date by 1 day with Japanese keyboard.Allow
';' to increment the date because on those keyboards + is shift-;.
Bug 798391 -OFX import routine keeps prompting for accepted (and
reconciled) transactions when imported again
Bug 797610 - Scrolling is too fast to follow
Bug 798392 - Reports do not display when Reports JavaScript dependencies are located
at a filepath that includes special characters like hash ("#")
Bug 798395 - ofxdirectconnect downloads crash gnucash 4.9
Bug 798408 - The calculation in budgets UI and reports are wrong.
 Bug 798411 - Untranslated/Unused string [pt only]
Bug 798415 - Due Bills Reminder Dialog - Right align 'amount'This was a
right-to-left language (e.g. Hebrew) problem.
Bug 798435 - Crash on print after printing checks
Bug 798438 - on reconcile window, click on the last column 'R' does not
order the entries according with the status
Bug 798448 - Column 'num' cannot be null
Bug 798458 - Build failure with gcc 12
Bug 798474 - Windows 10: Mouse scroll wheel on register only scrolls 1
pixel at a time (instead of 1 line at a time)

The following fixes and improvements were not associated with bug reports:

Added a BETA Stock Transaction Assistant to help create a variety of
securities transactions. To try it out start GnuCash with the --extra option, open
a stock-type register, and select Actions>Stock Assistant. Please note any
issues on Bug 798004.
Remove the hard-coded default namespaces"AMEX", "NASDAQ", "NYSE", "EUREX", and
"FUND" from the New Security dialog. These namespaces were added to the list of existing namespaces; it was necessary
to create a commodity that used one of them to make that one an actual namespace, so users who have commodities in e.g. the
namespace NYSE will still see that namespace in the selection list. Reasoning: The list was necessarily incomplete and confused
new users.
Fixed the Income Statement report table formating so that all sections get
laid out to the same width.
[Python Bindings]Implement some comparison and arithmetic operators for
GncNumeric
Budgets are sensitive to readonly status

Disable some budget features if book is readonly
Fix suppression of "cut split/transaction" warnings for the current session

These were not working because they were missing from the temporary
warnings settings schema. The warnings could only be dismissed permanently. Add
them to the temporary warnings section of the settings schema.
Currencies in several locations not displayed correctly for Hebrew
[category-barchart] Added option to show ratios
[html-chart] Add format style option for numbers
Better wording for tax table changed info message.
[register] Checkbox any value other than 0x20 (ASCII space) is true,
because it can be X or U+2716 now and could be something else in future. Fixes
in particular the disappearing tax-included and tax-table in the Invoice/Bill
entry register.
[Python Bindings]Provide the complete set of QOF enums in gnucash
[Pyton Bindings]Provide wrapper for qof numeric predicate

Python bindings already have some wrapping objects for qof predicates.
This adds the one missing for GncNumeric comparisons. Additionally fixes a
wrong number for QOF_NUMERIC_MATCH_ANY in example file.
 Remove commodity-table.scm,

Re: [GNC] Loss one of my file

2022-04-01 Thread Adrien Monteleone
For completeness and clarity, this is only an issue (so far as I know)
with *GnuCash* on MacOS. It is not generally a MacOS problem. I have
often double-clicked other files which resulted in them being opened in

John,

That definitely doesn't sound right with the download.

Are you letting Sourceforge auto-download for you?

Try the direct link:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash/files/gnucash%20%28stable%29/4.10/gnucash-4.10-1.setup.exe/download

You can get to that on your own if you want by cancelling the
auto-download, clicking the GnuCash app title on the page, then choosing
the Files tab and navigating through the version folders to what you need.

I had a similar experience yesterday --

TL;DR -- after updating everything in flatpak and rebooting, the reports
started working again.

DETAIL

My office system runs Ubuntu 21.10, and GnuCash via flatpak. I updated
GnuCash to "4.10+" a couple of days back, but I hadn't run any reports, so
I noticed when folks complained about blank ones. Sure enough, when I tried
them, SOME reports (Transaction Report, notably) were blank, and some
(Income Statement, maybe) were not blank.

So I started digging around trying to figure out how to add the WEBKIT_...
flag to my GNOME launchers to precede the flatpack run command. The
launchers broke. I was able to execute the command from a terminal, but not
in the GNOME desktop launchers.

SO I restored the original launchers, checked flatpak and saw some sort of
platform or locale or nvidia update or something. I installed the flatpak
update, and rebooted (to see if my broken GNOME launcher would work). The
refined launcher was STILL broken, HOWEVER

...next time I tried launching GnuCash WITHOUT the WEBKIT_ flag, the
reports worked.

SO the lesson might be if you're running Flatpak make sure all the flatpak
updates are installed. And maybe reboot?

When I try to enter a new price under the tools menu – price data base and

I cannot find any option to change the number of decimal places.

I have tried to download the latest version a number of times but for some

Check the fraction traded for the stock in the security editor - I'm not sure

In the account I have set the type to stock and the security to the one I
created

I have also the set the small fraction to 1/1000. Again I am not sure if this
relates to the number of shares or the price.

When I try to enter a new price under the tools menu – price data base and
enter a price of 2.3675 it always rounds to 2.37.

I cannot find any option to change the number of decimal places.

I am on version 4.6 and before I update the version I could always enter as
many decimals as required. I am using windows 10.

I have tried to download the latest version a number of times but for some
reason the down load does not complete

John,

Check the fraction traded for the stock in the security editor - I'm not sure
but I think it's related to that setting ? Mine are set to 1 / 1 so you
might try increasing that if it is lower.

Cheers David H.

I have checked the preference options, have changed the number of decimal

I have checked the security set up
I have checked the stock set up

Cannot see any way to change the number of decimals

[GNC] printing checks issue

2022-04-01 Thread Eric Rathhaus (general) via gnucash-user
Hi - I’m experience a new problem printing checks on my Mac. I use the
three-part Quicken checks but every time I try to print, it prints the selected
check on all three parts. I’ve printed hundreds of checks and haven’t had this
problem before. Any suggestions/trouble shooting would be very helpful.
