Here is a link to that post:
https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2021-December/098934.html

It does work as expected, so there must be a typo somewhere.

Make sure GnuCash is closed first before opening the file and editing. Make
sure the semicolon and space is removed at the beginning of the line & add
the blow in the second set of quotes. It will read like this:

(gtk_accel_path
"/GncPluginPageRegisterActions/DeleteTransactionAction"
"Delete")

Re: [GNC] Fixing incorrect Vendor for invoices

2022-08-28 Thread Eric Hammond
At least two of us users have been confused when editing / fixing Vendor or
Customer field in Invoices or Bills
(and created somewhat of a mess)
I would request for the next GnuCash update:
All fields in the Invoice's "Invoice Information" & "Billing Information"
panels, and in the Bill's "Bill Information" & "Billing Information" panels
be
locked, and maybe, grayed out.
That would force using the "Edit Invoice" or "Edit Bill" features in the top
ribbon, which work exactly as users (at least 2 of us) would expect.

Thank you for the consideration,
Eric

I had tried to alter an invoice to a different customer and found
myself with a similar problem.
Now I have all of that data under one customer and a customer entry now
called "Reuse me" for next time I have a new customer.

I see Derek said its by design, but it caught me too.
I was not aware that the menu entry "Edit Invoice" had different powers
to choosing "View/Edit Invoice" from a search panel.

Re: [GNC] Reports: Account ending balances

2022-08-28 Thread Adrien Monteleone
A Budget Report can do that. Not certain if you need a budget set up,
but I don't think so. Include only the 'actual' column(s).

I think there is also an experimental multi-period P&L (Income
Statement) which is probably more of what you are looking for.

Income and expenses are of fundamental type equity (they just haven't
yet been combined with equity). They are also of opposite sense.
Expenses are debit and Income is credit. When you add income to equity,
you are increasing equity (equity is of sense credit). But when you add
expenses to equity you are decreasing equity (because the sense of
expenses is debit.

Assets = Equity + Liabilities   << the fundamental equality at the start >>

Now at the start, there are yet no items of income or expense, so those
totals are zero. So no violation of anything if we add zero twice to the
right hand side.

Assets = Equity + liabilities + Income - Expenses    << that's just
Assets = Equity + Liabilities + (0) - (0)   and we are always allowed to
add or subtract zero, no violation yet >>

We will now look at two transactions, one for an item of income of x and
one for an item of expense of y. When we enter the item of income we
would be debiting an asset account by x and crediting an income account
by y. So ..

Assets + x = Equity + Liabilities + (0 + x) - (0)

And when we pay an expense of y we will be debiting an expense account
by y and crediting an account of type asset by y  But remember, the
normal sense of assets is debit and the normal sense of expenses is
debit. Sp

Assets + x -y = Equity + Liabilities + (0 + x) - (0 + y)

OK now?

My financial situation has recently changed so that many of the accounts

Hi Neville,

You have successfully replied to the mailing list so all users will be able to
see your message
now.

I do remember that old conversation, which was about an upgrade helper script
that should
run the first time you execute gnucash 3.x. For some reason this did not always
happen on
Windows. To this date I still don't know why that is.

As a workaround you could also perform these upgrade steps manually by moving
some
state files and the saved report configurations file to their respective new
locations. You
seem to refer to the saved report configurations file and I assume you copied
it to its new
location based on the conversation that happened there. That should indeed get
you back
your saved reports in 3.x.

There are/were more files in the .gnucash directory that saved state for all
open windows
and tabs that should have been migrated/upgraded. Bus as you are reading this
older
conversation I presume they were not copied either. They are less important
though. And
certainly not now any more that you have been using gnucash 3.x already. No
doubt you
have already reopened registers and reports to you likings.

Regards,

Geert

Re: [GNC] GC 3.11 crashes during "Check & Repair"

2022-08-28 Thread john
There's not much point in filing a bug report for a crash in 3.11. Install 4.11
and run check-and-repair on it there. If that crashes then try to get a stack
trace (see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Stack_Trace and note that it's *much*
easier under Linux than Windows) and file a bug on that. If it doesn't crash
then you're probably good-to-go with 4.11.

Re: [GNC] GC 3.11 crashes during "Check & Repair"

2022-08-28 Thread Kalpesh Patel
If you do not want to upgrade your live env, may I suggest combination of
VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/), Vagrant
(https://www.vagrantup.com/) and Vagrant Cloud
(https://app.vagrantup.com/boxes/search) to fetch pre-build "boxes"?

This combo works on any OS but If you are on Windows systems, you can
download another Windows version and work on it for 30 days without needing
a license. Discard the Vagrant instance after you are done...

Be warned about malware that you have your virus protection regime up to
date. While Vagrant boxes are from trust worthy authors, don't lower your
malware/virus surveillance guard for anything.

Re: [GNC] gnucash-user Digest, Vol 233, Issue 83

2022-08-28 Thread Kalpesh Patel
This might be the bug that I had hit in 4.8 of GNC which might had been
carried forward since 3.11 and prior when performing "Check & Repair" (yah,
I was a Quicken User). When I ran into the bug, crash was with "Check &
Repairs All" which likely uses same routines under the hood. Bug 798346 is
the ID for it which was fixed by John.

Best bet is to go in "blindly" and not perform "Check & Repair" until you
are past version 4.8 of GNC.

Thanks for all the references, particularly for reminding me to check the
trace file. Unfortunately, the only error messages logged in the trace file
were at the beginning of the process:
* 09:31:56 ERROR  gnc_process_get_fd: assertion 'proc' failed
* 09:31:56 ERROR  gnc_detach_process: assertion 'proc &&
proc->pid' failed
I am reluctant to venture into gdb, much less compiling GC myself, but
perhaps these lines at the end of the trace file give a hint to which part
of the XML file is giving "Check & Repair" indigestion:
* 10:07:41  INFO  [xaccAccountScrubImbalance] Finished
processing split 113 of 304
* 10:07:41  INFO  [xaccAccountScrubImbalance] Start
processing split 114 of 304
Is there any way for me to identify what part of the XML file "split 114 of
304" corresponds to?
Given that GC was started several times by mistake when price update were
running on the same file, I suspect that the bad records are in the price
history part of the DB.
I can readily do without the price history if there is some way of migrating
all of the transactions to the new file version.

Of course I ran 3.11 on a copy.

With that number of splits it could be a "close books" txn. If so, then
as these can readily be re-created perhaps it would be worth trying the
effect of deleting all such.

I'm not an expert, but I'm pretty sure the price db doesn't have splits; it's
just a list of commodities, prices, and dates (asking with some other
housekeeping info).

I believe that "113 of 304" is in reference to the splits within a given
account, so you'd need to know which account might have had that number of
splits.

Re: [GNC] GC 3.11 crashes during "Check & Repair"

2022-08-28 Thread Adrien Monteleone

The Check & Repair is to be done after each major version upgrade.

Since you're getting a crash, (on more than one data file?) I'd
recommend obtaining the output the devs are looking for using the links
David sent. (all documented on the Wiki)

I don't know if they need just the Windows info, or if obtaining the
same on Ubuntu will help too.

Then submit a bug report on Bugzilla: bugs.gnucash.org.

You'll need to register an account there first of course.

Describe the crash and attach the requested files.

Regards,
Adrien

Since "Check & Repair" only appears to use the GUI to select accounts for
partial checks, it would be nice to have a command line option (like the one to
update prices) to perform "Check & Repair All" then save & exit, e.g.:
gnucash --repairall [datafile]

I installed GC 3.11 on a PC running Windows 10 21H2 and ran "Check & Repair
All" on my GC 2.6.19 XML file (twice).
Each time, GnuCash crashed after about half an hour.
The log files do not contain any warnings or error messages.
What now?

Interesting question.

Perhaps try a 3.x flatpak?

Otherwise, if you haven't yet jumped from 18.04 to 22.04 maybe an interim stop
at 20.04 will get you GnuCash 3.x.

(Can you even go directly from 18.04 to 22.04? I didn't think it would even
give you the option)

Be sure to review the Wiki about upgrading. You'll need to run Actions > Check
& Repair > Check & Repair All at each upgrade of a major version.

Adrien

Thanks for the tips! I came across the Flatpak possibility, but was dissuaded

Another approach to consider is using the 20.04 (focal) live ISO. Just put the
ISO on a USB and boot from that, then install gnucash in the live environment,
and using that to convert your gnucash data to version 3. That way you don't
have to try to install different versions on either 18.04 or 22.04.

sounded easier since I had already made a boot disk for Ubuntu Studio 20.04 LTS.
Unfortunately, that didn't work. I was able to boot from the live DVD and
install GC 3.8. However, when I tried to run Check & Repair All, following
your suggestion, it never finished. Check & Repair gives no indication of its
progress in either 2.16.9 or in 3.8. The menu bar and toolbar flash
occasionally while Check & Repair is running, but the only indication that it
isn't done is that the menu cannot be operated and there is no indication of it
having finished. In the live Ubuntu Studio 20.04 environment, the GUI would
become unresponsive if inactive for as little as 15 minutes, even after I
disabled all suspend, screen lock and screen saver features, making it
difficult to just let Check & Repair run as long as necessary. After that the
DVD would start working overtime. I have had a similar problem with the GUI
becoming unresponsive in my f
