[GNC] Accounting period on a per-file basis?

2023-08-05 Thread Stan Brown (using GC 4.14)
My own accounting period is the calendar year, but a nonprofit I'm

I'm on 4.14 now: I elected not to go to 5.3 since 5.4 is only a few

And KUDOS on the speed: files open and save much, much faster than in
2.6. And my balance sheet comes up almost instantly, instead of taking
about a minute.

The Hidden column in the Accounts tab is a nice addition: A few days
ago, in 2.6, I was trying to find which accounts were hidden and that
meant clicking each account, then the Edit button. That was very
tedious, but now I can see the same information at a glance.

Excellent. That is helpful information. Next, try testing quote
retrieval from the command line. If this succeeds, then your problem
is probably inside GnuCash. If this fails, then the problem is
probably with the Finance::Quote software bundled with GnuCash, or

with the data source, or with the configRelauration.
The ISIN "INF846K01Y05" does not exist in the data used by the nseindia
method.

The Finance::Quote module NSEIndia.pm module works by extracting data
from a zipped CSV file retrieved from nseindia.com. Friday's file would
have been
https://archives.nseindia.com/content/historical/EQUITIES/2023/AUG/cm04AUG2023bhav.csv.zip

Reliance and INFY do exist, and F::Q's own example retrieval script will
show (The example scripts are in the tarball CPAN downloads when
installing the F::Q module):

bschuck@valhalla:~/tmp/finance-quote$ ./Examples/stockdump.pl nseindia

Why the data for INF846K01Y05 is not available from NSE India (did it

Another workaround is to keep the master copy on the iCloud drive, then use the

Re: [GNC] QIF Import Problem

2023-08-05 Thread David Carlson
Brenda,

It appears that you are editing the QIF file incorrectly. It should not
need to be edited at all if it is coming from a financial institution. I
have not used that format for income accounts so I cannot tell you exactly
what is wrong in your case but I think that one side should be appearing in
an income account, and the other side in a bank account. If you go to
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicken_Interchange_Format you will see some
examples of how the format is used, but I think that it is not 100%
correct. Try to find a more authoritative source for exact usage.
Also, I see that you are in a jurisdiction that has HST, which we do not
have in the US. Others in this maillist may be able to better guide you.

Re: [GNC] QIF Import Problem

2023-08-05 Thread Brenda Leudke
Hi Gyle:

Thank u for the reply. I appreciate any help.

The program (Vacation Rent Pro - VRP) that I am using to generate the import
file only creates QIF files for Quicken or IIF files for Quickbooks. So I
have to use QIF files to import into gnucash.

Note: I use OFX files when downloading my banking transactions into gnucash
with no problem.

I have discussed this with the VRP support person and he says that the QIF
file works properly for Quicken. So he says it's a gnucash problem.

When I import the data (as shown by my example), the payment as well as the
income both enter as a debit. Then I have to manually change the income
entries to a credit.

I would be open to doing some type of conversion of the qif file before it
gets imported (to reduce the amount of manual effort). Not aware of a qif
conversion to ofx or qfx. But that would be a "good enough" workaround, if
there is no other solution.

Brenda,

Are you using Quicken or QuickBooks? The Quicken file import used by
Gnucash is QFX, not QIF? I don't know anything about the format of the
import file, but I did a quick download of a QFX file and the layout looks
very different. I hesitated to respond, because I don't know much about how
it works, I just know it works fine for me and the only difference was QIF
vs QFX. Gnucash will also import OFX and CSV files if you want to try a
different format. I didn't see any responses to your question, so I decided
to offer what little help I could.

Thank You,

Good afternoon:

I am a first time poster, long time user of gnucash...

I am trying to import a QIF file into gnucash. Gnucash is entering
everything as a debit. I can't verify this but am being told that it works
with Quicken. Is there a problem with the file or is there a problem with
gnucash? I would appreciate any help.

Re: [GNC] Use again GnuCash

2023-08-05 Thread Derek Atkins
Sorry, that's beyond my Mac knowledge.
Hopefully a Mac user will be able to answer that for you.
My GUESS is that you just need to File -> Save As and select your iCloud
Drive Folder. And then on the other computer File -> Open and select it.

Just be careful that only ONE computer has the file open at a time, and
that you shut down GnuCash every time before you open it on another
computer.

Also, I don't know what the cache coherency delay is on iCloud Drive, so
you may need to wait for the files to sync every time you use them.

If you fail to wait, or if you fail to use it one-at-a-time, you can
overwrite and lose data.

2023-08-05 Thread Derek Atkins
Hi,

On the Mac, you cannot double-click a file to get it to open. GnuCash
will always open the last file it used, regardless of what you click. On
a Mac, you need to open GnuCash and THEN you can use File -> Open to open
a desired file. Then, when you exit GnuCash, next time you restart it
will re-open that file (regardless of what you click on).

If you File -> Open and it says it cannot open the file, please tell us
what the error is.
